What stuff do I need in a new boat

After using a small, 14 foot, bench seat boat for fishing since I was 10 I was finally able to get a real fishing boat. I have an 18'6" Lund Fisherman so I have plenty of space to store things. What sort of stuff do I need to fill up all of the compartments with? So far I have a bottle opener, a good hook out and some band aids for the kids.

I keep all different kinds of tape and glue in my boat. It seems like every other time on the water I need a different kind of tape or glue. Multiple scissors and pliers also.

Extra set of keys for your tow vehicle in the boat, and an extra set of boat keys in the tow vehicle.

Finger nail clippers, pliers, marker buoys, throwable cushion, extra pair of clothes, rain gear, extra spools of line, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, the list goes on and on. Congrats on the new boat, now time to get some fish slime on the carpets

You do need throwable life preserver as started above, by law, since your boat is more than 18ft, but its a good idea to have one anyway as i've seen people get buck'd out of boats

As stated before, by law, you need a throwable life preserver, you also will need a fire extinguisher, and some type of horn, I believe. Also navigation lights if you are out after dark. You have said you have been in a boat since you have been 10, I think you have a pretty good idea what you need. Personally, I like to have a first aid kit.

A GOOD side cutter, for cutting hooks. Don't get a chinese cheapy, but one that will work when you need it to. Make yourself a nice first aid kit, with some nerosporen (sp?) or other such good creme.

A small toolkit in a Plano box, where you also keep your registration and insurance stuff.

A couple jawspreaders, or one with a line tied to it. They do tend to go overbaord

18ft boats do require a throwable and it can not be stored its needs to be excessible, and a fire exstinguisher. I would guess your boats is already equipped with a horn. I also stick my boat registration to the wall next to the throttle up side down so the C/O can read it. For some reason they like to board your boat from that side. Jumper cables have saved me and also a few other guys that I have helped out over the years. Extra boat plugs,a rope solely for landing the boat, spark plugs, tool kit, electrical kit, extra oil, 2 good anchors, spare prop, pee bucket comes in handy when its crowded and a good firstmate to help fill the live well. Terrova with I-pilot, combo finder/gps unit (get a good one), map chip for the gps, compass (yes they still use these), fish grabber, scale, decent anchor, spare outboard oil if you have a 2 stroke, sunblock, sun hat, fish towel... rods, reels, tackle... waterproof camera, binoculars, wind breaker, spotlight, flashlights...

That boat - I have one - will need waterproof bags for dry storage if you are in big water or rain. I use the fold over style.

I also mount golf towels on the windshield supports when fishing so we can dry our hands quickly. They stay dry there with the top up.

Also a good light, hand held or head mounted, since the lights that are on the boat are pretty dim.

To add, extra fuses, bulbs, a water proof container of some sort, as said, I have a small (well it started out small) tool kit with some basics. As you continue to boat, the supplies will increase.

It sure seems that way until you start thinking about how much stuff there is to store. No matter how much storage space a boat has, you could always use more.

I like all the answers here. Some of my top ones are- small tool kit, first aid kit, zip lock bags, duck tape, WD40, zip ties, extra rope, flashlight.

I forgot to mention that having a some items for when you trailer your boat is also a good idea. Like tie downs, bunge cords, paper towels, extra bearings and grease. I have a small jack and a lug nut cross too. Duct tape can fix a rip long enough to get home.

The very first thing that I found that I needed when I bought my first new boat was a second job to pay for all of the stuff that I thought that I needed!

On that note, I bought an entire replacement hub with bearings installed a Northern. Hopefully I never need it, but it would sure make a bearing failure go a lot easier.
