Riverratpete
Work in the North metro and noted in the last couple days LOTS of big ole Green heads in the flooded fields mixed with quite a few geese, not sure if they are locals that never left or what. BLACKJACK
Had a couple of Canadians sitting on my big pond (northwest of Willmar). Pretty soon when more show up they'll be all kinds of honking and fighting going on, it gets so noisy sometimes that it wakes us up at night.Gotta love it!!! ChuckN
Yep, even here in Fergus Falls area. More birds are showing up and pairing up claiming territory on the ponds. The spring is so cool to see wildlife!!
Riverratpete
It's awesome to see all the ducks and geese returning. Good to see they all didn't get blasted by the good ole boys down south. (hehe) I did see yesterday some of the biggest Mallards I've ever seen in my life, almost multicolored in a weird way. Anyone else seen these? fishface5
So far I've spoted Bluebills, ringbills, woodies, hooded mergs, (and blue herons). I love this time of year. Are they beutifull this time of year, or what? Two years ago We raised a doz. mallards banded them and let them go. Nine came back last year, and one was back as of the 26th. Ray Esboldt
Dateline: March 28th; White Bear Lake, Minnesota; outside at 7am to grab the paper. I hear the faint, but distinct sound of giggling little girls coming from the sky. I run around the house as the sound is getting stronger to observe a flock of 30 White-fronted (Speckle Bellies) geese fly on through.I've seen a few in Western Minnesota, one in Rochester, and tons in Saskatchewan, but have never come across them in White Bear Lake. That made my day.------------------Ray EsboldtMarCumStone Legacy
hanson
Sitting on LOW saturday watching tip-ups and a lone Canadian honker flew by. Shortly later a big greenhead went cruising by. Then a big old bald eagle landed on the ice and started pecking at something for awhile. On the way back home, saw a pair of woodies in the ditch. Guess its that time of year! IceHawk
I've noticed alot of geese and ducks lately in the Richmond area. I saw numerous nesting pairs of geese sitting on the river. I also noticed alot of divers-Redheads,Ringbills,Mergansers and a few Goldeneyes. If a person likes to take pictures of some of the finest specimens of waterfowl now is the time to do it. They are at their peak colors makeing for some nice photos.
Sartell Angler
I haven't been out of town lately too see many migrants. Over at a friends house on a small river I did see a few nesting geese, as well as some woodies and some gorgeous hooded mergansers. The goldeneyes have been on the (mississippi) river all winter, but I did see a few swans out there the other day. And after a couple buddies and I bought snowgoose licenses but never went, apparently my mom saw a flock of about a dozen snow geese fly over in Sartell the other day while walking our dog...she said they were about tree-top height!! When she told me that I was actually mad that I wasn't home from college to follow them in the truck and see where they were landing. Oh well....I'm going snowgoose hunting next year w/out a doubt. And looking forward to seeing some more migrants this weekend hopefully.S.A. aka woodduckwizard from the MNRefugeGang
