Advice on 01 Pantera?...

Buddy might be selling his 01 (I think???) Arctic Cat Pantera. I am not that familiar with them, but this is a 2 up and I think efi. He is 70, just doesn't use it much anymore. Like one ride down the lake last year, once the year before, etc.

He takes great care of all his stuff, and he bought it from a 70 year old who bought it new. He said now it has about 500 miles on it...!!!....

Not sure how much he wants, as he has another older Yammie Venture (92 with 1500 miles) and nice longer trailer (drive on/off with the ramp saltshield) to go with it, so not sure if my bro-in-law might want that and we would buy whole package... He's going to give me first chance when/if he decides to sell, but I think he is going to.

Anyway, any info or advice on the Pantera, ballpark guesstimate of going price on worth/price? I know it would make a nice fishing sled and double duty for relaxed trail riding. Thanks for info!

If that is a '01, I'd snap it up for $2k - $2500, that's a great deal on this sled, very common to see them for much more.

Great sleds, if it has power valves, make sure they are clean, some people didn't like spending the extra money on synthetic oil and it would gum up the valves.

Those sleds are often going for in the $3000 range.

If you can get it for 2500 or 2000 thats a steal. Low mileage that like should be a sweet ride.

There really isnt much to watch out for on them, but just plan on sticking $100 into a good battery since it hasnt been used much.

You dont need the battery since it should pull start in one or two pulls, but for electric start it would be required.

I would tip it on its side and look at the track for rot. Many times sleds with low miles get dry rot on the tracks because they sit out by the woodshed with the track right on the ground.

Sometimes low mileage can be a bad thing on snowmobiles because they sit 9 months out of the year anyway. If it was always stored inside, no big deal, but sitting a lot can cause havock on bearings too, especially in idler wheels. All easy things to resolve.

Just grease the snot out of the suspension (front and back) and dont forget the zerk behind the driven clutch (speedo cable) and you should have a nice machine.

BoxMN, is the Venture the one you were riding in the Trails Report post? When you find out more details let us know, Track length and lug height would be good to know. Um, PM me when you find out from the guy! wink

Thanks guys. I know it is stored inside except during December to Feb, then it is on trailer in his yard, covered.

The Venture in the report is my 02, not the one he is selling. BTW - the white one was the old 88 Indy 400 that I traded a canoe for! The last is my xc500. My wife gave me the okay to get the Arctic Cat is my buddy sells, and I would like it if we can swing it. Main thing is what he will want for the package, and if I would keep the trailer or not, and find a buyer for the 92 Venture.

I need a sled like a hole in the head wink but at the right price it would round out the stable nicely. We use them every weekend, and often have more folks than sleds. Who knows, maybe it won't snow next year, ha! But I can always get at least to the lake. I know the sled is in real good shape except the issues you guys mention, next thing will be when he sells and how much... isn't that what it always is?... haha!

Thanks for info!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
