Ice fishing is boring

Ice fishing is boring. I would rather cast in my backyard until mid-april than ice fish. who's with me? I'm gonna give the ice one or two my tries before I'm done.

You should have seen how many follows I got yesterday... (from neighborhood cats) laugh

Mostly with friends. We catch fish.. It's just redundant looking at a flasher and sitting there compared to the A.D.D style of summer I have... I mostly made this thread to see who else is ready for the season to come to an end, and for the real fishing to begin!

Ice fishing is my winter drug. Summer fishing just doesn't do it for me like hard water. Sold my Warrior last year and got a pleasure boat.

Love how everyone feels differently. Gotta love freedom of choice in the US&A: BurgerKing/McDonalds, UPS/FedEx, Healthcare...well, in most things for now wink

RawHog, you gotta pace your winter differently. Ice fishing starts out great, then it gets boring when the ice get's superthick, the guys in trucks arrive, all the fishing slows and the weather is killer. Every winter, I take about a month off from ice fishing. I take apart all my reels to clean and lube. I hit sporting goods stores to stock up on out of season clearance stuff. I sneak in some open water fishing on a trip to the south when I can (this year, my work sent me to Daytona and I got to pound a bunch of bluefish.)

...that said...

Right now is when round 2 begins! The weather is awesome, the fish are getting aggressive, the trucks are thinning as short-attention fishermen are giving up for the year. I had one of the most fun outings of the winter last weekend and I can't wait to get back out.

It's all about pacing yourself, my friend!

In a few weeks, though, I'll be dying to hit a trout stream.

Agreed. Im waiting for open water to make my first longgg cast. I've fished so much this ice season and am bored of staring at a hole and flasher. I like to move around. I also have caught plenty of fish. Last week we went to a lake and absolutely hammered the crappies from 6-pm to 12pm. A good 6 hours of constant action and we must've caught over 200 crappies ranging from 6-11'. I got bored of it and took a nap lol

I don't have a boat, so I prefer ice fishing over summer fishing.

Exactly where I'm at as well.

Plus, ice fishing can just be so darn easy without needing to deal with a boat.

Ice fishing all the way!

I'll have to agree with amateur there's nothin' that eats better than some fresh cold water walleye smile

I love 'em both but I'll take ice any day just for the reason that I hate hot weather, I could sweat just walking outside in 40 degrees, and from there I just get agitated!

I used to hate ice fishing.... until my brother-in-law introduced me (about 12 or so years ago) to doing it properly - with a locator, power auger, portable shack, etc. I then turned into a convert like no other! smile Couple locators, couple augers, few snowmobiles, ATV, couple portables, a 12x14 perm...

I ice fish now every weekend of fishable ice, unless a funeral or xmas party gets in the way, or maybe some great sledding trails like this coming weekend, haha! I like it right up until ice off, then I turn swap seasons out to the next one, which will be crappies from boat, maybe walleyes on the river, and turkey, then into walleyes, etc.

My wife texted a picture of me to the (grown) kids last weekend,... "I am watching Box ice fishing out there with his dog... nice anniversary huh?"... haha! I didn't stay out too long wink

I would ice fish 7 days out of 7 if I wasn't married. I'd stop just long enough to get more beer and PBJ sandwiches. and bait, since I don't have a clue about using plastics...

+1 and amen to that my brotha! Especially the FFLF part (female fun limitation factor).

You can pretty much forget about shore fishing lakes unless it's part of a city park. Most lakes, at least in the metro, have about 50 feet worth of accessible public shoreline. I shore fish the rivers. I've got a boat and I still shore fish the rivers. Now that's easy wink

I didn't ice fish much as a kid, and when I did we didn't catch anything. I've always been a summer fisherman - nothing like being on the water and casting. However, about 4 years ago I slowly got into ice fishing more - mostly as a way to kill some time and to do something to occupy my time in the longgg MN Winters. It didn't take long before I really took to it and I do enjoy it a lot. If I were to pick between the hard water or the open water - I'd still choose open water but ice fishing is just another variation of fishing and a new challenge (and a place to spend my pocket money 2c).
