Lasik Experiences

Umma Gumma

Question

I had Lasik a couple of weeks ago at Whiting clinic. So far, so good. A little dryness towards the end of the day and some halos, but overall very impressed so far. I go for another checkup in a couple of weeks.

I know from looking at previous posts that others have had it here as well, with good reviews. I'm wondering how many use eye protection of some sort for what activities? I've looked around the web and some dr.s say eye protection for things like water skiing or basketball, while other don't indicate the need but for things like boxing and martial arts (and some don't even note those as needing protection). I don't participate in contact sports except for a game of pickup basketball here and there.

For those of you who have had it, what has your experience been with water skiing/wake boarding, jet skiing, tubing, basketball, volleyball, etc.? Have you jumped off the diving board at the pool? Have you had any issues with "the flap", or anything else to speak of? Just curious what I can expect in the months ahead, and especially this summer (once I get dr. clearance, of course).

Thanks!

I had it done 5 years ago and love it. Some halos early but eventually went away. Still battle with the dry eyes though. As for Safety glasses, I normally only wear them when using power tools and that kind of stuff. I was never told that I needed to protect my eyes while doing outdoor sports. I would say commonsense would cover it all.

I had it over ten years ago. After a month or so I was never told I needed to do anything to protect the flap. After it re attaches it was just like "normal."

After ten years my 45 year old eyes failed me and I opted for a PRK procedure in one eye. It worked ok but I've finally succumbed to getting glasses that I use normally for driving at night. I had terrible vision before the Lasik so that probably is the reason it only lasted ten years I think I was about -8 or so with my contacts.

I had mine done by Dr Whiting while he was still at Joffe Medicenter. I think it is coming up on 4 years. I cancelled the procedure 3 times before I actually decided to hike up my skirt. I have extreme eye anxiety, so it was rough. After it was done I couldn't believe how simple it was. When people say they are in and out in 2-3 minutes, it's no joke.

I went home, took a nap, and drove to have some lunch and a beer. 3 days later I was up in Canada fishing, with no problems, other than constant need for eye drops. I never did get 'perfect' vision, but it was pretty close. I think it has gotten a little worse, but still good enough that I don't need glasses.

Total bill, including eye drops was about $2200. There is a steroid eye drop that was about $200 that you don't need, and didn't do a da'amn thing. I'm pretty sure Craig Joffe or David Whiting have stock in that company. Save your money on that part.

Mine was $1950 total, both eyes, two weeks ago. One of my eyes qualified for the $595 price, the other was roughly $1,300. This was for custom wavefront. I believe all of Whiting's Lasik is custom wavefront.

I didn't not have intralase, I think they call it. I had the the blade to cut my flaps. I believe Intralase was an extra $300/eye. Based on the research I did there was a minimal higher potential for issues with the blade and my dr. did not specifically recommend it based on good, thick corneas.

Had mine done at least 10 years ago, so did my wife . Less than $1000 each back then . We both still dont need glasses . She has no problems . I have problems with dry eyes , I got plugs put in my tear ducts and the dry eyes are much happier , cost $200

I had my eyes done about a year ago and really like it BUUUT I have an accommodation issue which means when I look at something close like my cell phone and then look up my sight is blurry and takes some time to refocus. I snowmobile, fish and hunt with no problems with almost perfect vision but the close up to far away is hard for me to adjust to.

Had mine done last August at Crosby eye clinic, and it has been awesome. 20/15 in my right eye, 20/20 in my left eye. Dryness lasted about a month, now I never need to use drops. No halos, though there is a bit of light sensitivity on bright winter days.

I wear sunglasses (like I would anyway) when I fish; other than that, I don't need to do anything different.

Mine cost about $2,400 total, IIRC, but insurance picked up the tab except for about $85 (I have a lifetime max benefit for the vision benefit rather than a yearly amount, so I just used most of it in one chunk).

If it were me I would ask the doctor, as he/she is the one warranting the work done. And they know exactly what was done with your eyes and how well they took the procedure. Tell the doctor all your activities and ask if you need to take any precautions.

I had it done by Dr. Whiting about 9 years ago when he was at Lasik Plus in Maple Grove...I have had no issues. I wear sunglasses all the time when outside but I also have sensitive eyes and have always worn them....

I did mine about 10 yrs ago at the northwest eye clinic. I had 20/15 in both eye at the end of the month of having it done. I have not any problems with the dry eyes. But was told to wear sunglasses when ever I am outside. Other than that it was about 3000 for the surgery but I did have a wave scan done.

Dr Whiting did mine when he was still with Lasik Plus in Edina. So about 8 years ago. I was under corrected the first time and had to wait and let me eyes heal 10 weeks and do it over. I have perm halos, so I went from regular glasses to perm sunglasses during the daytime and anti-glare glasses at night. Still won't trade it to go back to reg. glasses.

Has anyone had any experience with the Bonner Eye Care out of Grand Rapids? Was it a good experience and how about the costs? The new surgeries seem to be cheaper than a few years ago.
