Ford EcoBoost Engines

Recommended Posts

A reflash has taken care of that. And any vehicle that has been sold since December has had it, and if you have one before it, just bring it in, and get the reflash done.

Its not like they are just catching fire, and burning to the ground, like some other models are wink Chevy boy!

From a class action lawsuit filed today.

So far there are only 20 owners on the lawsuit. Might be much ado about nothing but here are exceprts from the press release from the law firm.

F150 owners who claim that their vehicles suffered from the defect, which attorneys believe is caused by a flaw in Ford's Charge Air Cooler (CAC) system. The complaint alleges that the system, which is designed to cool air before it reaches the engine, causes condensation to build up inside the air intake tube, especially in more humid climates.

Attorneys believe that when drivers accelerate moisture moves into the engine, causing the vehicle to shudder. In severe cases, the F150's computer system senses the danger and forces the vehicle into "limp mode" to prevent damage, the complaint alleges.

The suit claims that Ford is completely aware of the issue, and has gone as far as to warn dealers in a secret memo, noting that vehicles may, "stumble and/or misfire on hard acceleration after an extended drive at highway speeds during high humid or damp conditions.

Ford knows about this issue, but has not taken any common-sense steps to protect its customers by issuing a recall, working with customers to repair their vehicles, or warning potential purchasers about the defect," said Berman. "Instead, Ford has actively concealed the problem, forcing consumers to suffer economic losses from repair costs and a reduced resale value for their vehicles."

Steve Berman currently serves as co-lead counsel for the economic loss class in the sudden, unintended acceleration lawsuit brought against Toyota (NYSE: T).

I know of a few trucks personally with an issue, but they only do it under high humid conditions, which unless they are living in the southern states, they shouldnt be having any problem right now, until spring, summer. If your buddies is not drivable right now, either there is something else wrong, or the cac tubes are broken for some reason.

Or are you saying there is an actual issue with his intercooler?

As for backordered part, there is many reasons for a back order. One being they are pumping out many of these 3.5 EcoBoost engines, and the new ones will get the first supply, then the dealers will get the supply after that for warranty repairs. Just how it is.

They could have found out, that they wanted to change something else with the updated part, and they need to re design it, and get a supply of them made, and shipped out. Something could be going on with the builder of the items, bad weather, a plant blowing up, a strike, low supply of needed materials.

I guess if he had an intercooler blow, and the truck was down and out until one came in, I would be calling my regional rep for Ford, and strongly suggesting having the dealer purchase an aftermarket intercooler, just to get the truck back on the road. Just a thought. Unless it is a current model year, and there is no aftermarket parts available yet.

But if it was a 2013, they arent having the issues, yet.

Chevy Boy? Watch it there! grin

In all honesty, and though I have had more troubles with Fjords than any other make I have owned, it is hard(tempting as it is) to jump on them for any problems they are having. I actually commend them for innovating and developing new ways of doing things. As complicated as cars are now with everything tying into systems and everything being controlled by sensors, chips etc. I am surprised we don't see more things like this pop up from all companies. Couple that with the pressure to crank out these newer technologies at faster and faster rates while driving down costs to stay competitive you should expect that there will be growing pains. But please- Don't ever call me Chevy Boy again. madgrin

I think the Atlas concept is going to be a 2015 model. That is one sweet truck! From what I gather, Ford has increased the size of the 2013 turbos, and switched to an electronically controlled blow off valve, likely in preparation of a HP increase for the 2014 model.

There's also a rumor they are adding a smaller EB 3.0TT in addition to the 3.5TT. The smaller EB would get a little better gas mileage, which makes you wonder about the fate of the 5.0L v8. I think the 6.2L will probably be reserved for special edition trucks and high performance mustangs, even more so than it is now.

The production version of the Atlas (15' F150) is also said to drop 500-700lbs from the current model, which obviously will help MPG's as well. Supposedly Ford thinks the towing wars are counter productive/have topped out in the 1/2 ton segment and is trying to become the MPG leader. Time will tell.
