Well... there's rod bag. Then there's rod case. Two very different options. Rod bags are more portable. Rod cases are more durable.

This may be the best rod bag out there, the Striker Ice transporter bag. It holds 4 rods up to 36" length in tubes. It has 4 side compartments and 1 large middle compartment to hold accessories or gloves & light clothing. As with bag do not attempt to stuff or carry heavy items as they will tear and rip from use.

In my opinion, Frabill Rod Safe is the best rod/reel case I've owned. I can fit 8 combos in it no problem. The obvious trick is to stack the combos, longest on the outsides shortest on the insides. My combos don't move an inch in this thing.

It is similar to the otter case, the only difference is its about $20-25 cheaper and less bulky. Unless you plan on running it over with a vehicle, I think it is stout enough. On the Other hand, it may be able to take the weight of a vehicle, I've just never tried. smile

I started a thread earlier about the Striker bag. Thanks Andy for posting pics. In Indiana we have to hand pull our gear most of the season. Traveling light and keeping things orderly is the key. This looks like the perfect bag for me. Thanks again.

Glad my review was of help to you. I picked the Striker Ice rod bag for the very same reason to be able to pull my gear and stay light as possible. With the bag you can strap over shoulder and free your hands as well as clear space in the sled for other equipment.

I received my Striker ICe Transporter yesterday and its the real deal. I love the tubes for the rods and there is plenty of room for the reels at the end. The top area is HUGE and I was able to put my large spoon tackle tray in there along with the side pockets that hold all the other peripherals like line, etc.

There is a shoulder strap and back pack straps on it as well.

The other really nice feature is that it is sturdy meaning it will stand on end and not collapse like the Ready Rig back pack I already had.

This was exactly what I was loooking for in a rod bag.

I've had 3 different cheap rod bags. hated all of them.

pops got me the otter box for xmas. used it 6 times. have four rods, I think you could put two more in there. really like it thus far. though, with the price tag the gift is likely the only way it was getting added to my gear.

almost feel like i need to buy some tb rods to put in there so it lives up to its purpose...

Plano Pro Max breakdown shotgun case. 28 bucks at the store with the big orange silo out front. Awesome rod case.

X2...i can fit 6 rods and reels in there great. I just have to break the handles down but they work awesome. I have three of these...i will NEVER use a soft case again.

Correction to my own error. It holds 5 rods up to 36" length.

Where can I find the Striker Bag and check it out in person?
I had read somewhere that Thornes has some, but not 100% sure.

I just looked on the striker ice HSOforum and saw some pictures posted here and it was enough for me to make the plunge.

I will say some of the other options like the otter hard case are more durable overall, BUT the rods in the transporter have a very nice PE rod tube for each of 5 rods, plus you have ample storage for other things unlike the other options.

I wouldnt drive a truck over the transporter like some seem to think is important for a rod case, but this thing will be more than durable in even abnormal abuse.

There are 4 side compartments for storage, easily holds typical plano tackle boxes, plus the top has a HUGE compartment that I have a 3" high by 12" wide by 15" long plano jigging spoon tray and there is more room!

You can fit more than 5 rods in the bag (I did) but they wont have their own tube. I just slid them in over the top of the tubes, but under the bottom of the top compartment.
