Musky Joe
I am wondering if anyone here has insulated their own portable. I have an older otter lodge and I am thinking of insulating it myself instead of paying the big bucks on a new one. What type of material shoudl i use? Is it worth it? Mlaker3
I found a found a material on amazon that is sililiar to a solar blanket but a bit thicker, I used it on the ceiling, attached it with zip ties from above the door to the back wall and it hangs down abit. It is refective so it is a bit brighter and considerably warmer, and no dripping. Also didn't add any weight. If you back to last year or maybe 2010 you probably can find some old threads about doing this.
spentshell
Reflectix works great, it is like bubble wrap with a reflective surface. I used it in my clam last year and spent many nights sleeping in the shack.
tsande00
Reflectix is probably your easiest and quickest option. You can pick it up at local retailers like Home Depot or Menards. I've been running it for a few seasons in mine now and am happy with it. There are lots of threads on this subject on this web site. Try searching for "reflectix". Rube
Welcome to HSO Musky JoFor info on insulating portables, type in -Reflectix- in the search window on the left hand side of the screen, right above the area of clasifides. That search has worked the best for me.There is a lot of good info there and pictures to go with it.I am in the process of redoing mine and will be trying to incorporate some velcro to help hold it in place.Good Luck
EBass
Reflectix is in my porty. It's a night and day difference.

CrappieAttitude
I just put Reflectix in both of my portable houses. Only fished once with it so far and it was not that cold out. By putting my hand above my head, I could definately tell that the heat was staying in. I am looking forward to giving it the real test soon. All we need is cold!CA
BartmanMN
This is the post I used a couple years back when I installed my reflectix.http://www.hotspotoutdoors.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2057709/
bassfshin24
I just installed reflectix in my portable and had it out on LOTW this past weekend. Man it gets toasty in there. You can definitely tell a difference.
gonehunting
Use BartmanMN's idea. I used the same in my old otter lodge and it worked great. Be sure to use the duck tape where the velcro slits are.
