They sure are fun on light gear..WOuld be nice if the panfish wouldn't disappear for 15m after you catch one though.

thats sweet... but believe it or not i was on upper red last winter.. had 4 lb test on the tip ups for walleyes.. caught a 46 inch pike on 4lb test on a tip up so i had no drag!!! what a battle hooked him right on the corner of the mouth... its still swimming!!!

The reel worked great, I gained a ton of confidence in it thanks to that battle.

Stealth, that's crazy!!! I guess it's the same way with the Ice spooler reel, you still have to let the reel go in order for the "drag" to work, but it isn't in free spool mode like you think, there is a little tension on the way out, but no tension while reeling in.

But I DID have the added benefit of the rod taking some of torque from the headshakes and runs!!

allwaays fun to hook a big fish on the impossible set up.. it was just over an hour fighting the pike, it was insane, cold, and my hands froze numb...
