Best duck hunting shotgun out there, what is it????

For duck hunting I think the good ole' 870 is great. Even though right now I am shooting a Browning BPS Special, but its not the best duck gun, too fancy to be beat on the side of the boat. I think I need a new 870!!

I like my beretta. I have the Urika 391. It's a great gun and I've yet to have any problems. I purchased one with the camo finish so wouldn't have to worry about getting those little rust spots on finish, from sitting in a gun case on a long car ride after those rainy day hunts. I may be biased, but I think beretta's are the best waterfowl guns made, next to the benelli's of ocurse.

P.S. I also bring an 870 with me on every hunt. It has to the most reliable gun made for the money.

Wanna see something funny?? grin.gif
Hand me an auto & watch me when I go to shoot a second shot at some clays & forget that I've been using a pump for over 28 years. blush.gif
I was told the look on my face when I was trying to Pump that 1100 was hilarious! wink.gifgrin.gif
Had that happen to me a couple years ago & I was surrounded by laughter!
And saying that, I think I'll stick to my 870's. At least when hunting....

Thinking about the 870 super magnum. It loads 2 3\4 to 3 1\2. I need a more hardy gun for dux than my BPS special. Looking at the synthetic or camo. Anybody use one of these super mags? I have used the original 870 a lot. I really want a 3 1\2 too. So if anybody has heard anyhthing about these please reply. Thanks

I'll stick with my 1100 and my trusty 870 for a back-up. You can beat those guns to death and they will still fire. I put my guns through a ton of abuse so I cannot justify spending the big bucks for a gun like a citori, etc, etc, that should be in a display case rather than in a muddy pit or a wet blind.

The 870 Wingmaster and the 870 Express are two totally different guns. One is one of the worst guns ever made and the other is one of the best. Guess which one is which? I have a Winchester Super-X2 12 guage in camo. (basically a Browning Gold) that is still in the trial period. So far I like it alot. It is one of the few 3 1/2 inch autoloaders that can easily cycle 2 3/4 low base shells. It has been dropped accidentally in a N.D. slough picked back out of the watery muck and shot right away without missing a beat. I bought the gun because I retired Gramps old Rem. Mod 11. It was an unbelievable gun never failed for three generations.

My 870 12-Express, and 20-Wingmaster are quite reliable. I would consider a
baretta from a few of my buddies improvment in their shooting abilities though. Any thoughts on this?

Crappie kid,

Isn't the 870 Wingmaster just a luxury 870 Express? What I means is that the Wingmaster is basically an 870 Express with a blued barrel, better hardwood stock, and fansy wood and metal designs.

I don't think the 870 Express deserves to share it's name with the Wingmaster. Buddies have had them (won them) and they break. Don't misunderstand me, they don't malfunction, parts break in em. They're not the same gun at all. My gunsmith buddy had to get a Benelli dealership so he could stock parts for those things. Think that says enough about those guns. Personally, I'm a Beretta lover. Nothing is perfect, but the 390 391's are about as close as you can get.

basshunter--

You pretty much nailed it on the head. I went to Remington's HSOforum and found this under FAQs.

question: "What is the differece between a Wingmaster and an Express?"

answer: "The difference between the Model 870 Express and Wingmaster are strictly cosmetic. The Express utilizes a birch stock and fore-end and non-polished matte finished metal surfaces. The Wingmaster has a walnut stock and a high polished blued finish on metal surfaces. Internal parts are the same on both models. Both are built to exacting mechanical specifications."

Hope that helps and answers you questions.

With all this talk about the toughness of the 'ol 870, I thought I'd quick share a story...

One of my hunting buddies didn't quite have his head screwed on right (that never happens to me... hmmm?) and forgot his gun (after unloading it thank goodness) sitting on the top of his vehicle after the hunt... we didn't realize it until it slid off the topper at 55 mph!!! The sight in the rear view mirror of that 870 going end over end bouncing on the pavment made me cringe!

But you guessed it... the thing didn't miss a beat!!! A few scratchs and scuffs, but still as reliable as the day he bought it.

Personally, I'm a browning man... my bps has NEVER failed & it's been through the fine dust of Saskatchewan field hunting(talk about "gumming" up your action) to raggin' sleet to below zero blizzards!

JA!

I agree the 870 is one of the best guns ever made. Before last season I bought a Winchester Super X-2. I will never fire a 870 at a duck again.
I noticed that nobody mentioned the old model 12. Evan though i have never owned one I beleive they were the ultimate all purpose gun. If you don't mind carring the steel.
P.S. I still consider myself a Remington man.

I have a Browning BPS Stalker, 12 Gauge, 3.5. Sythetic stock, 30" barrel. Best gun Ive ever used. I've had it since they came out with the 3.5" loads.

Ive dropped it in mud, water, crawled around in bean and corn fields with it. Never had a problem. Best of all, is great for both ducks and geese.
