I watched my friend try this on a lake early ice and his brand new Lazer became disconnected and found it's way to the bottom of the lake. It was pretty hilarious to see his face after that happened. Looks like a slick setup though.

The Nils drill attachment has a flange at the top that prevents it from going through the hole. Nice feature on a slick set-up!

I'm more than positive this is not going fall off. When we fabed the chuck we made it so it would thread on and lock in. Last season we useed them tell we had just over 12 inches of ice, still got 40 holes with the six inch bit. I will post some video showing how good this thing works later this month...B-)

A good sharp spud bar (chisel) has worked for a hundred years for early ice but to each their own I guess. When you get use to one and know how many chops it takes to break ice to water you can use it every few steps to make sure the ice is safe with one chop and never break stride, and the steps you don't chop and walk, you walk with it horizontally to catch you on the surface of the ice if you do fall through. It works, doesn't need a battery, and can be made and/or purchased easily and on the cheap. Thanks for helping the economy though.

Be careful not to put too much down pressure when drilling. Hand augers are designed to turn at a certain speed. I have the factory made adapter that mates a drill with a lazer hand auger. The second time I used it, the auger took a deep bite into the ice and the drill had enough torque to spin me (6’ & 270 lbs) to the ground but not before it sprained the bejesus out of 2 fingers. They are slick set-ups but just be careful.

Juan, any reason you went with the M18 over the M28 drill? I may be giving you a shout soon...

LL, I went with the m18 bcause it was moe than enough power the I needed.. I ran the 2I volt last season and did not like. and I know some guy that ran the 18 and it wor great some I went to it, and it was a little cheaper.
