LX7/LX9 question

I dont know anything for sure, but I would be surprised if they came out with that update for the lx7. What purpose would the lx9 have then? Its basically an lx7 with the camera.

I dont really see the lx7 getting those features. I am sure the capability is there, but it probably doesnt make the best business sense since it would be cannibalizing their premium model.

Actually i think it would make really good business sense if you think about it. Current LX7 owners would be more likely such as myself to spend another 600 on an upgrade to their existing unit than 1200 on a different one and Marcum gets an extra sale they might not have. People that dont have either unit would choose the unit that suited them. Maybe buy the 7 now because they could afford it then down the road because they know they can and when they have the money upgrade it. Those that have the money and the desire for the "premium" unit as you put it will still buy it complete. I may be way off base but i think it would make better business sense to make that option available to generate revenue that they may not otherwise get.

if they do offer a upgrade option I would hope it is less then $600.00 considering the LX7 is $700 then add on the upgrade for another $600. now you have $1300 into something you could buy new for $1200. I could see may be $400 to $500 for the upgrade but not $600.

that's good to know. once I have the upgrade done to my LX7, I will probably put the old Marcum VS250 up forsale or may be keep it as a extra back up unit if some one that goes fishing with me wants to play with a underwater camera.

That "upgrade" you are talking about is not the software update being referenced here. There would be NO CHARGE for the software update.

The upgrade referenced is some additional functionality that rumors has it brings capabilities to the LX7 that the LX9 has, but that was pure speculation.

The update to bring current LX-7s to LX-9 capabilities includes a camera and a port to connect the camera to the control board .... right now on the LX-7s there isn't a connection for the camera or a board to run it ..... and since it's a hardware upgrade that's why you need to get it back to Marcum (ie. not as simple as just updating the software).

Yep, that is the upgrade I was referring to. You also get a new softcase and the ability to record (Like the LX9). Seems like at the end of the upgrade you will have the same as LX9. Pretty sweet for those of us that bought the LX7 last year.

So a question to the guys that have these....which display do you use the most, vertical or traditional round flasher?

Most of the time I used regular "sonar" mode. Loved the size and crispness of it!

Split graph/sonar got alot of use also...

Here is a short vid with the 7 I put together with some showdown/flasher mode and just flasher. I forget the exact number but there is no lag, I believe they said 4 times faster than the human eye...

I change my display quite a bit depending on where/how I'm fishing. I love the options you get to customize the display. The display setting I probably use the most is a combination of flasher, zoom bar and conventional sonar ...... but I may turn off the zoom bar to make the sonar display larger on the screen, or may turn off the sonar display if I'm not using it.

So when on split screen, which one do you find yourself looking at more...or are there situations where you prefer one over the other? Why I ask is because I would like to give my showdown to my father, and get a new setup. I personally like the simple vertical display and never have been a fan of all the whirling and swirling. Having said that, am relatively recently more serious about ice fishing, and am seriously wondering about the benefits to the whirl and swirl in the new LCD setup.

I normally watch the round one but once I see the fish in the zoomed in section I watch the vertical zoom display. I run my zoom on the 10' setting. if you are use to the showdown I would recommend setting up the unit to display the showdown view next to the zoom veiw. Once the chain has safe walkable ice let's meet up out there and you can try it out if you want to.

this is how I run mine :

I would set the unit like this since you are use to the showdown :
