2012 Ram 1500 outdoorsman

Recommended Posts

Having owned a 1500 with a 5.9 for a dozen years and a friend that has a nearly identical truck we both got 11 MPG average at best and I don't think I ever had a tankful that sniffed 13. In a 4wd nobody that I know is averaging better than 15 with a hemi. I suppose it is possible but I there are a significant percentage that are closer to 15 than 17.

The new Hemi with MDS gets much better milage than the 5.9 gas ever did I had a 03 5.7 and I got about 11 now I have a 2010 and get on average 16.5 combined and as much as 20-21 on the hwy I have had a 5.9 cummins and I averaged about 18 with that combined so I think the newer Hemi has come along way

I just saw a commercial on TV for 25mpg for the 2013 Ram. I had to go check it out online.

That is 25mpg from a 3.X V6 with an 8 speed trannny regular cab 4x2. Yeah I knew it sounded too good to be true.

13.98 probably isn't too bad to start with. I can barely squeek out 15 combined in the summer with my Dakota. Winter combined is 11.9-12.1. For half the truck...

I've been keeping an eye on the new Dodge's as well, but I"m not sure about all the gizmo's they are adding to help with fuel economy. Shutters in the grill that close, airbag suspension that lowers at speed, etc. The option to raise it up for off-road is interesting, though.

I'm sure with anything they screw you with goofy permissions like you can't go over X mph before the suspension automatically lowers out of the off-road height or other garbage like that. mad

To me most of those things are just things that will go wrong 5 years down the road and cost more money to maintain. Dodge is at their best when they keep things simple and just give you a cummins engine with great fuel economy, tons of torque and a basic interior that doesn't look like you should look for a valet every time you park it.I think Ford has a better idea with their ecoboost where the motor is the focus and not gadgets like suspension adjusters and such.

Just bought one on Wednesday, Haven't put on enough miles to check mileage. Does anyone have any mileage reports for this pickup?

I have had a 2012 crew cab model for a little over ten months now, great truck. The one I got was packaged up great for me, jet black with just enough chrome and 20 inch rims. The crew cab is huge, I gave up a little bit of box area for the crew but it's not really a big deal for me. The MPG for me has been around 15 and change city and 20 hiway.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
