Driving out to bait bears on Saturday, I noticed an abundance of turtles out sunning themselves.

I couldn't resist.......... You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of a boy grin

Anybody have a favorite turtle recipe?

I want to make a soup/stew for our annual duck camp opener.

Last time I had it we subsituted turtle for a clam chowder. It was good, but was looking to try something new.

-Thanks Guys!!

thats a nice snapper!!!

we use this simple recipe whenever i am lucky enough to stumble onto one; turns out real tender.

good luck cleanin him! thats the first step, of course.

FRIED SNAPPING TURTLE

Cut turtle into pieces.

Coat pieces in flower with salt & pepper (i also add some Louisiana or Zatarains cajun or creole seasoning)

Fry in hot oil until golden brown.

Wrap turtle pieces in heavy aluminum foil that has been sprayed with pam.

Place in heavy pan or roaster and bake at 350 degrees for about 2 hours or until tender.

btw, went to cooks.com and saw lots of turtle soup recipes

What I use to do is just take the meat, boil it to get some of the greese out of it, then fry it in oil, and flour, and add seasoning to your likings. If you fry it until it is done, they taste good like that. Or if you boil it, until it is almost done, then throw it in the crock pot, with some veggies, and make a stew out of it.

I usually do a couple at a time, and make some of each, since I am smelling my house up with turtle anyhow, might as well make a big batch.

Thanks for all of the ideas!

I'm looking for something that can be pre-made and just reheated. That gumbo sounds like the ticket laugh

Save the shell to make a cool clock for the garage / hunting shack.

That sounds like a great idea!

Screw putting it in the garage. I'm gonna make a clock for the living room!!

It will fit in great with all of the other dead stuff on the walls grin

I have a big shell from a couple years ago (no clock) in the computer/office room. I cleaned it and tossed a couple coats of poly on it. Looks neat!!

Thanks again guys!
