Very Unique Mount back from TAXI!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Just picked up my 2011 archery buck from the taxidermist!

Got him opening day last year on Public Land.

He was definetly not the biggest buck in the world, but I wanted a neat mount to make him still stand out

There are very few forms out there like this, so he had to alter it (make the neck longer and wider). Cost extra, but well worth it!!!

I hope you guys enjoy it laugh

Had it done at Rack It Up Taxidermy in Balsam Lake, Wi.

Great mount, did the taxidermist take it to any shows? I have never seen one quite like that

No, he literally just finished with the paint and gave me a call.

When I picked the form, he told me it was too small. He said it would be out of his comfort zone to alter it. Wasn't too sure how it would turn out........But I talked him into it smile

Over the last week while he was finishing up he would call me and tell me how sweet it was gonna look grin

He said he was glad he grabbed the bull (or buck smile ) by the horns to make a customer happy! I think he was more ecstatic than I was grin

Not too sure yet?? I'm thinking 1/2 mount with open mouth. Don't know how I want the front legs? Gonna keep looking wink

I have some of his muscles in the smoker right now! I love bear jerky smile

Here is what I had done with my last bear. It came with the one peice of drift wood he is standing on, I added the other peice and the rest of the habitat.

I love it!!

Like that bear a lot! Roughly how much for 3/4 mount like that? My guy quoted me 900-1000$ ish for his I paid 850$ for my rug last year, bear was 5.5' is that going rate for good quality? I did some research and made sure my guy sent it out to be tanned and he also sends to seamstress to get felt sewed on not glued like some do.

The bear was done at a different taxi, Jeff Kahler, also from Balsam Lake.

The reason I went with him, is he does quality work for a little less than the going rate. I think I paid around $650-$675 for the 1/2 mount. Most other guys are in that $850-1000 range. His rugs are also cheaper than most, $100 a foot. He sends his hides out, not sure about how the felt is finished?

The guy who does all of my deer (Rack It Up), charges more, but is still reasonable. And does a fantastic job to boot smile He has an unreal ability with molding ear butts and sculpting eye muscles. The only thing I wish he did different, is to make a "7" or "Z" cut on the hide, not split it all they way to the back.

His rugs run $125 a foot, and 1/2 mounts $950-1050. Deer shoulder mounts are around $375. The one I just got back was $485 counting a tip.
