If you are in a metropolitan area and the squirrels are doing significant damage, call animal control and ask them what to do after you live trap them.

My experience is there will always be squirrels around, since the whole town is a reservoir of them. So all you can do is deal with the ones who are causing damage. Digging up grass isn't really that much damage in my book, but with my grass it would be hard to tell.

I had no idea they could swim that well! I guess I'm not surprised, but from a distance if you told me it was a muskrat, I wouldn't have doubted you.
