Something such as the Yakima Boat loader might work, depending on what rack you have on your SUV. Basically cuts the weight in half of your boat. Might be just what you need.

It's not exactly what I had in mind, but I'll do a little more digging. I've seen a loader product that slid off the side of the vehicle and helped hoist it up to the top. If I find it, I'll pm you the link.

Kayak/canoe tailor. Some guy on c's list in minne is trying to sell them. Looked kinda like a jet ski trail or with a rack system on it. I think Yakima or Thule has a rack system that will drop down from the roof to waist level you load it up and then just lift it back up to the roof. Pretty cool actually.

the one that loads from side is telos load assist that goes with some sort of "autoloader".

There are also some that work from the back that you put one end of the yak on then pick up other end and it rolls into place.
