Android update 4.0 today...sux

So my phone tells me there is an update available for the operating system today.

(Samsung Galaxay S II)

I'm thinking in the back of my mind, "no I probably shouldn't", but did it anyway.

When it was done, everything was super slow, couldn't get into email etc.

Reset the full sync thing, and then Gmail down loads and is available. But regular andriod mail still wont download.

I updated the PRL, the profiles and checked for firmware updates but still no change

Anybody else do this update today and have problems with it?

Interesting.

Voice mail was non responsive, text messages were arriving 20-30 minutes late, trying to type a text the phone would lock up for moments at a time.

The main problems revolved around the main android email program. It would open but then be non responsive, so it had something to do with the sending and receiving.

Currently I disabled the default email program, and the phone is working fine again. I wonder if this is androids attempt to make people use the gmail program?

No...but I've been chomping at the bit for ICS to be released for my Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Went perfectly on my Evo 3D. Needed to sync most apps the first time I opened them but now they all opened quick the second time.

Seemed to work fine for my HTC One X too. Nothing is lagging . Everything seems to be working just fine.

Were you folks using the stock email program?

That is what was causing my problems.

As soon as I disabled it, everything else worked fine.

I downloaded Aqua mail and that worked fine.

So now i tried to reinstate my regular email program and had to enter all 3 of my accounts in there again and add to the synch. Now it works like a charm.

I did notice that there are new features with this email, where you can select an entire day and then a trash can appears to delete it. that never was like that before the update.

I deleted the Aqua mail (didn't care for that anyway) and back to normal now. Must have been a fluke in the update process.

4.0 is GREAT on my S3.

I had the update come through for my Galaxy S II a few weeks ago. It was a little goofy at first but not significant issues. Email was fine.

The issues I did notice was with syncing and some other random goofiness. But everything thing seems to be fine now.

Flawless on my ATT Galaxy Note, everything increased with the exception of the bat life (may be my own fault cause I can't seem to ever put it down), but I have charges at my desk, car and home so no worries.

Interesting, because for tablets one of the things touted about ICS is improved battery life.

No...but I've been chomping at the bit for ICS to be released for my Galaxy Tab 8.9.

It's available for the 10.1 now. Got my Tab updated last night. Seems to be working good so far.

Frankly, the way Samsung has been dragging this out I'm seriously thinking about who will NOT be the supplier of my next tablet, if there is a next tablet.

Is this device through Verizon? They are notoriously slow to release updates.

The VZW Galaxy Nexus took over 3 months to get an update that was pushed out on every other cell provider almost immediately.

No, it's WiFi only. I have a separate Verizon hot spot gadget for connectivity through cellular but the tablet itself is just Samsung, just WiFi, not connected in any way to a cellular carrier.

Samsung is notoriously slow in updating OS's. That is part of the reason I went with an HTC phone instead of the S3.

ICS (Android 4) came to the Tab 8.9 today. Seems like a nice improvement from what little I've played with so far.

I dont know if it is my imagination, or my phone or sprints service, but my 3G data has been crawling since this update. I swear the original dial up was faster that this.

I got an update to ICS shortly after getting my phone and it pretty much killed it. I called Sprint and they had me punch in some sort of codes and it was back to normal again.

Just before the update Sprint upgraded the towers in my area and 3G speeds were cruising, so I could tell right away something was up when that minor OS update was installed.

I would call them and tell them your data speed has decreased since the update and see if they'll work their magic. You'll need a second phone handy because you'll have to power down your cell during the call with C.S.

I called them this morning and he walked me thru punching in a bunch of numbers and now it is back at normal speeds again.

Awesome. I have no idea what they are doing, but it works!

Before the tower upgrades my data speed was probably around 2-300. After the update to ICS and before the call to C.S., double digits.

Just did a speed test and got over 1200 1900 kbps on 3G.
