Looking for sweet corn and canning tomatoes

Im looking for a sack of good sweet corn and canning tomatoes preferably around the NW suburbs area. Or would it be worth driving down to the Mpls farmers market for these?

Geez, there's a stand on just about every corner these days selling all kinds of garden goodies. You really shouldn't have to look very far.

Go to the MPLs farmers market. Tons of competition that gives you leverage to negotiate. If you buy corn by the sack and tomatoes by the bushel you should get much better pricing.

Best time to do this, for the maters anyway, is late in the season right around the killing frost, you will be able to get boxes full on the cheap at the markets. Sometimes they are not the pettiest fruit, but matters not as your going to be processing them in some form.....

Ill have to take a run down to the farmers market. Havent been there in a long time anyway and is fun to do once in a while.

Related to my last post...when you go, just talk to them. Let them know you want to do some canning and do not need perfect looking product. With all the heat this year there are tons of tomatoes with ugly cracks and blossom rot...many outfits would be happy to get rid of them.

Gonna take a drive down there today and see what they have. I also planted tomatoes in my garden and they look terrible with cracks etc. But Ive never had much luck with bigger tomatoes. I think one problem is my garden gets full sun all day long and no shade.

Went to the Mpls farmers market today and bought 2 boxes of very nice looking tomatoes to can tomorrow. Wasnt as many vendors on a weekday but didnt have to battle any crowds either. Stoped at the corn field off of 169 in Champlin and picked up a half dozen ears of sweet corn. Very good sweet corn but a little pricey at $4 for half a dozen and $7 a dozen.

Mpls farmers market is the place to buy. I buy my pickle's down there every year. This was the first year i went durning the week not near as busy as durning the weekend.

Metro prices. I buy my peaches and cream sweet corn at $3.50 a dozen at a local farmer. Others in the area at $4.
