Again...Thorne Brothers Mystrey Tournament

It was Green lake right by the chisago community center. full field of boats. I left after weighing my fish because I knew I was out of it. when I left I know there were a couple bags in the 17 pound range again. I think deitz probably won the loomis bucks. I talked to him and he said he weighed 8.89 and the loomis weight was 8.9.

Two biggest bags were over 20lbs... Biggest bass was a little over five pounds.

Smallest limit was 5lbs. Two Daiwa reels for worst flip towards a coffee can.

Guessing the nearest to your actual weight won a boat detailing. Median weight got Northstar jigs. And Deitz got the Loomis bucks with his "raw weight" smile

Me and my bro did, once Green was picked we knew we had no chance of competing for the top weight. Thats what's cool about this format, gives you other things to go for. I should have brought the big dogfish I caught to the weigh-ins and seen if I earned any prize for that.

ya. we were shooting for either lowest or the 8.9. I had a fish That was alive and kicking at 2:45 die on my five minute ride back to the ramp. Then one that measured right at twelve on my crappy measuring board but was an 1/8 inch short on robs so we only got to weigh 3 fish. rookie mistake on the short fish. our best 5 would have only went for about 14 so we didn't even attempt top 3. was my first tourney ever and I had a blast though. What kind of boat were you running?

navy blue alumacraft invader, I had the white sleeveless four-loko shirt on.

One of these days I will hopefully get a glass bass boat so I can hang with the big boys... Some nice rides out there... My big mistake was thinking the 8.9 was 8lb 9oz, we ended at 8.48 so I thought I had a great chance at the 8lb 9oz but then I learned I was culling to the wrong amount lol. Regardless, it would have been tough to beat 8.89 smile

WOOOOOTTTTTT, that was my battle cry when rob read the weight of 8.89lbs.. Cecil my normal partner could not fish, So I fished with my wife.. I knew then that I was not going to be able to camp on Lindberg point with the rest... So we shot for the loomis bucks, and glad we did. I got lucky and won the frankies event on N/S Center last night too, so its been a VERY good week for me.

pretty sure it was 20.9lbs, Tretsvan and Bruno won it.

This was the first one Chris Demars and I fished and we had a great time. It was tough deciding what to go for! We were sitting at about 10 lbs at noon and had to decide whether to go for 8.9, lowest bag, or the win....we chose the win because we were on a HHOOOTTT bite that no one else in the field was fishing (besides maybe Deitz). That backfired because the rest of the day we got 20+ fish that were all runts.

I can say we would have taken smallest bag if I would have swallowed my pride.

I don't know Nick. I was the one who swallowed my pride and won small bag with 5.05. The other teams who tried for small all had 5.5 and up. Every one of my fish was between 12.1-12.3 inches smile

It was a very fun tourney and if I wasn't going to be out of town for the next one I would be going for sure.

I remember seeing you slobsamurai. I only have a 17 foot glass boat with a 130. Dont need a big one to fish just one to get you on the water. smile Nick. What pattern were you on? We caught over 20 bass that day. Only about 12 were over 12 inches. We fished senkos in super shallow water under shady docks and lifts. Also later in the day when the clouds would cover the sun we'd get a good flurry until the sun peeked out. That and inside weed edge produced. If you don't mind sharing your pattern I'd like to know.

Deitz. this was my first tourney ever. During the morning meeting Rob said if someone was within a cast to find a different spot. So why did everyone crowd around the point? How does this play out etiquette wise? Seems like a lot of guys know each other well so they probably didnt mind a crowd, but what if a newcomer would have showed up right by them all on the point? I would have liked to fish there for a while at least but didn't because I was boat 20 and wasn't first there obviously. I will be fishing the 22nd to. Got myself a new bump board to so I don't measure a short fish.

mww24,

Most of our time was spent on the southern side of the lake in the slop. We concentrated on patches of vegetation by throwing NorthStar swim jigs with paddletail swimbaits as trailers...Just simply threw at the salad and ripped it through..They were only hitting our jigs when they were right under the surface.

Thats kind of a hard to answer, many of those guys know each other(and have fished against each other) well enough to know which guys need their space, and which ones are cool about fishing close. If you are going to fish Lindberg during a tournament, expect neighbors. Plain and simple. Being new, I would suggest you just be vocal. Ask.. When I am fishing near someone I try and do my best to ask.. IE if someone is fishing a weed edge and i want to fish the dock inside them, I ask if it will disrupt them. Perfect example.. sunday Luke was fishing the channel between the lakes. I asked him which side of his boat he would prefer me to go around him on. Its that kind of respect that will often be repaid at another time.

That being said, there are also people who are the first to get close to you, and yet are the first to ^#$^# and moan the second you get within 100 miles of them.

What is great about the Thorne events, there are so many options to "Win"... You dont have to be the best angler, and yet you can get lucky. For the most part, I thin kthe first few events have gone really well as far as respect on the water.

Thanks deitz. That makes sense. Your right about the whole set up. It is a very fun format at a low cost. Made it enjoyable for sure. Enough so I'll be back. You guys got any tips on fish care in the livewell. I had a 13 die on the boat ride back in at 245. The fish was hooked deep so I cut the line and left hook instead of doing a ton damage removing the hook. i also bought some livewell treatment liquid to supposedly help with fish care, i filled my livewells in deep water and ran on recirculate most of the time and then brought in new water and added more fish care stuff a few times throughout the day. i just hated killing a fish. any tips?by the way i was parked right in front of you at the end of the day deitz with the black and gold ranger with the red trailblazer. i'm jealous of the cat. sweet boat

We fished some docks but that didn't pan out, we got our bigger fish on hard bottom out on smaller points. We caught a majority of our fish on swim jigs on the southern end weeds, but most of them were small. From what I hear almost all the tournies are won on that main point, but I wasn't familiar with the area and you can't really navigate around all those boats. Need an exact spot with a marker buoy like some of those other guys.

thanks for the boat compliment.. I do love it..

it sounds like you did everything you could to keep that fish alive. If its bleeding, I try and keep a bottle of Mtn Dew.. I dont know why it works.. but if you have a bleeder, pour mtn dew on the bleeding spot. Not in the livewell, but over the edge of the boat.

Other than that, try to keep fresh water and recirculate often.

It always a good idea to have ice too, especially in this heat. I use livewell treatment, ice and a recirc pump and rarely refill the livewell. I like to bring 10 of the 32oz powerade/gatorade bottles frozen solid. I also put a few drops of livewell treatment in the bottle before freezing to neutralize chemicals in the tap water.

Interesting tip about the pop on a bleeder. Hope I dont have to use it but its good to know.

we did the dock thing to samurai. It worked for a lot of little fish and one 16 incher. They needed to have shade and be in a bit deeper water than the rest of the docks. Also found some artificial rock and rip rap in a few areas that produced 2 17 inchers. and the rest came in the green weeds fishing a jig or rippin a spinnerbait through the weeds. never heard the pop trick. the one I had die didn't even bleed. He was in there almost all day though. I have dew on board at all times so I will keep that in mind. Going fishin with the boss tomorrow on one of the remaining lakes in the pool to try and find some stuff.

Sounds sorta backwards to me... citric acid and its salts are used to keep blood from clotting.

Fish blood is different than humans. Water clots fish blood, thins humans. The acid probably seals the wound a little better than just water, may do more...i've never tried it. In my livewells...the Recircs aren't very effective, if I run the aerator instead, the fish are in much better shape. I've never seen the benefit to adding ice or water treatments and have never had a fish die that I didn't expect to. Not all livewells are created equal.
