Mink problem

I have a serious mink or weasel problem. They have killed over 20 large chickens, 30 baby chicks, and large and baby ducks. We are not rich by any means so we raise a lot of our own food and of course it tastes better. I need help to get rid of these critters killing off my poultry.

If you can find where they are getting in the pen just set some 110 conibears at those points...also, you could call your local CO...maybe they have a state trapper that could help you out...and if you're lucky they'll have a program that will pay you for your losses...of course you'd have to have what's left of the carcasses so they could determine if it was indeed a wild mink...In the meantime get your 22 handy and sit and wait in the evenings or overnite with a red spotlight.

I am having the same problem. I have a couple of conibear 220's and 110's out as well as some leg hold traps. No luck so far.

Are they killing them and ripping them to shreds and eating them, or are they just killing them? Around here I've seen the weasels kill them and will chew a little hole in them somewhere and lick the blood. Mink will sometimes do this and other times rip them apart and eat them. I'm asking cuz it's easier to hunt your enemy if you know what your enemy is.

If it were me, I'd set some 110's and 1 1/2 double coils out. Then, I'd fill a thermos full of coffee, grab the .22 and wait for them to show up.

Then I'd call the CO, let him know what's happening and what you're doing aboot it.

It seems to very from night to night. sometimes the neck will be ripped out and the chicken or duck will be left completely hole and then the next time be ripped to shreds. Really getting frustrated, DNR said there was nothing they could do for me and I cannot trap them unless I use a live trap and relocate them.

Also, if you haven't actually seen one, or where they may be getting in...perhaps it's an owl or other bird of prey...it's typical of owls to hit the head neck area of other fowl when they attack...

Are you anywhere closeby water because if your not I would rule a mink out and weasels are not known to shred the body up but will cause a neck wound . This killer from my own experience of raising chickens and such, sounds more like the handy work of a raccoon . They like to often just bite the head off and continue to kill . Listen for the squawks at dusk or a bit later . You will see your killer .

Glad to hear you got the weasels . They are real bad in a hen house because they can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks or holes . I like mr weasel around my garage because he is a great mouser but around rabbits or fowl they are oppurtunistic blood thirsty little devils . A rat trap will even dispatch them .

Toe_mater where aroung Granite are you.I have a Broinlaw in Atwater who could help.I know hes bored and loves to catfish the river,I think he may be down there as of last night and home Fri.He trapped at one time.

If you have an old A type pocket gopher trap and know where they are getting in that can fix the weasels, too.

+1. Lost three ducks and three chickens to coons and grey fox this summer. Was going to do something about it, but decided to wait and let them pay me back a little later when the fur is prime instead...
