Jim Almquist
Some shots out of Fishing Facts mag from October 1973. I remember trolling with the spoonplugs as a kid. Love the floating rig setup!
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
I remember Northwoods Tackle. They remind me of and older version of Northland Tackle. I believe I have one of their books "Lunkers Love Nightcrwlers"I was newly married then and the rest is history...

Jarrod32
I was pretty young at the time, but I do still remember saving up my money to buy a Johnson Century reel (middle of the first photo). It was kind of a big deal at the time to have my own rod and reel, so I didn't have to borrow grandpa's any more...
Tom7227
Do kids save up to buy things any more?
bassinator
Yes, they do. Little off subject but I fished a tournament this weekend on Mille Lacs and Al Linder was the speaker, well I sat next to him at dinner and he had all sorts of stories from the 1970's days and starting his own lure company with his brother and all the articles he has written and so forth. He is extremely interesting to talk to.

Mid-Lake Rock
I see that Strikemaster was located in Minneapolis in 1973. At some point them moved to Big Lake. Today, a lot of people are complaining that they are moving to Minnetonka (part of the sale to Rapala). Back in the day, was everyone upset that they moved from Minneapolis to Big Lake? mallardnwalleye
Thanks for bringing back memories of those days as a kid with the pics. They help me remember grandpa's cabin on Rainy, the old timers, The red devil spinners and the oodles of eyes we got. The part of the Strikemaster ad that talks about how much faster it was than the spoon type remids me of how many years I struggled with that spoon type auger and how lucky we are that today we can all afford an auger that pops a hole in 5 seconds. Thanks for the post.
