I lost a very dear friend last week His name was Bob Merkling

He lived up in Gods country know as Little Fork MN.

I had the pleasure of meeting BOb thru a former member of this site and had the honor of fishing sturgeon with him.

I remember moving my boat into position to try and get the best spot on the river well Bob was all for it. We anchored up and settled in and wouldn't you know it Bob gets the first bite in the boat and pulls in his first sturgeon ever . I believe Bob was 70 years old at this time.

He welcomed anyone with open arms that walked thru his door and always had a inviting smile on his face and a quick come back if you didn't say just the right thing.

I think the most memorable saying was "sturgeon don't bite unless its 42 and sunny" He caught his when it was 42 and sunny. grin

Bob was a fabricator/welder and served his country proudly . all I can think of is God needed repairs on the Pearly Gates and Bob is doing the work.

Rest in Peace Friend and I know its 42 and sunny where you are forever.

You will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
