$100 Baitcaster Recomendation

KING

Citica at just over 100 and the exceler at just under 100. Both are great reels. I think the citica throws lighter stuff a bit better. I have and exceler for spinnerbaits and one for medium crankbaits. I use the citica's to pitch and throw light texas rigs. I have both the citica E and G models and can't tell the difference. everyone is saying how the citica G sucks compared to the E but I just don't feel it.

thanks for the replies so far...interestingly enough i read through a bunch of reviews and the same names that had good reviews have all showed up here

1. Lew's tournament MG (5.4)

2. Quantum Accurist (6.3)

3. Shimano Citica (6.5)

4. Diawa Exceler (6.3)(4.9)(the crankbait version had better reviews)

any of the Abu reviews really seemed to breed a love / hate - all of my musky reels are abu so that was my first thought, but at this price point it looks like there may be better options.

Like the info on the Lews but am maybe leaning towards the Accurist.

I fished with that reel one time : lews MG

http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Laser_MG_Speed_Spool_Casting_Reel/descpage-LMGC.html

Was good on MH rod.

I'm fishing with a lew's speed spool pro on a veritas M (you can find it a 150usd), really better than a curado or revo stx IMO. (I had a stx and I have a curado E on a MH rod).

I really like the Citica E's for $100 reels. Great all purpose reel. You can find the new Citica G's online brand-new for $103, you just have to do some searching. I can't tell the difference between the two either. I have a Pflueger low profile Trion from 3 summers ago and it's seen ALOT of use (with not a lot of maintenance by me) and it still casts great. I have completely gotten my moneys worth from that reel - I haven't tried the newer version however.

for baitcasters, I like the Abu GArcia 6501 C3's for northern and channel catfish. for Bass I been using the Abu Garcia Black Maxs. These work for me since I only fish bass like 3 to 5 times a season.

It's like the Chevy/Ford debate, the Shimanno side knocks the Abu's and vice versa. The reason is just because there is so little difference, they are across their whole line of products, the best. Others have a good one here and there but not the whole line and folks learn to depend on these two. JMHO
