my aching back!!!

Recommended Posts

I've got a bad back- broke a couple vertebre when I was a teenager.

If I chuck for muskies for a couple hours, my back is killing me for several days. I got a butt seat thinking that would greatly help me by not having me stand the whole time. It didn't work.
Any brilliant suggestions for saving my back?

My wife has these pads called Thermopad or something like that. She uses them for cramps. The have a sticky side you just peeel them off and stick them on the area that hurts. Good for quick relief out in the boat. Beat rubbing ben gay or icy hot on yourself out in the boat.

I spent the weekend muskie fishing..and my arms and lower back are shot. Funny how throwing a 2oz lure all day can be such a work out!!!!!!! Hurts even more because I didnt catch a thing!!!!!!!

Thanks for the treatment advice fellas. I've got a pharmacist for a wife so getting the drugs isn't the problem (don't worry, I get a script). However, I'm looking for prevention, not treatment. Besides not fishing, what can I do to reduce the amount my back aches before it starts to ache???

I would think that stretching and working out would help a lot. I have noticed that the first few times I get out each year can be pretty painful, but once I start using the muscles again it gets better and better until the snow flies.

Stretch, stretch stretch! I have arthritis in my lower back for which I went to the doc several years ago. Got a prescrip to go to a physical therapist for several visits. She put me in pain about every time with all the different stretching routines she taught me, but by the end of 4 weeks my back was mucho better.

If you don't wanna go to the doc there are prolly a thousand books at Barnes and Noble on coping with back pain. They will no doubt have descriptions of various stretching routines you can try. Just be aware that it won't change over night. Ya gotta put in the time first.

Bart Simpson....why did'nt I think of that? I have even been contemplating having an operation! Barnes and Noble would beat that any day! Was in a bad car accident years ago and the spine looks like a crooked letter. That and heavy lifting all my life. The old men used to say "Your gonna be sorry, you should'nt be lifting those heavy things!" Well, I guess they knew, because they did and paid for it when they got older....now it's my turn! I'll be heading out to the mall real soon here!

Also try putting a regular seat up front. This will alow you to sit and rest your back for awile. Its kinda hard to work a jerk bait wile sitting but there is always busktails.

Also try taking some IB profin before you start fishing.

I work for an exercise video mail-order company. We have some videos that focus specifically on the back. They can help strengthen and get rid of the pain.

E-mail me and I'll hook you up with a discount if you want:

Go to your doc and get pain killers!
Tramadol works great! I have a herniated disk and this stuf does the trick. Vicadin or 4 Advil will do the trick too!

Mind you, I do not take these medicines all the time in fear of addiction. Stretching and getting into shape has worked wonders.

One thing that has helped me endure long hours in the boat and stand and just about anthing for a long time is good old and trusty weight lifting belt. I think all of our lower backs suffer from the hours out but the belt seems to give support so you do not fatigue as fast. Especially trying to chuck heavy lures a mile.

If its bad, about the only thing you can do other than taking drugs, is change your fishing methonds to include more trolling and even live bait fishing. Get a pole holder and troll, troll, troll and you should be fine. It may not be your style but it beats pain for 3 days!
