Plagiarism

Just to try a spin on the share good music thread, I thought I'd start one about songs that either flat-out plagiarized or "borrowed" chord progressions from others.

We all know the Kid Rock tune that uses the same chord progression from Lynard Skynard's Sweet Home Alabama and Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London but are there others that you may know of?

Here's one that has a hint of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. Beginning at about 2:08 in the video of W.A.S.P's The Idol is a hint of David Gilmore's guitar riff. See if you can notice the similarities:

I see what your getting at, but I think it's more of an "homage". David Gilmour being one of the greatest guitarists of all time (IMHO) has influenced many aspiring axe men.

It would be cool to find out Bob Kulick(sp) was a huge fan of Gilmour.

Don't get me wrong, I like to see the different twists that musicians put on music as long as it's done respectfully.

You could drop about 50% of all rap songs into this catagory...

This. Don't forget that often the person singing the song isn't the one that wrote it or owns the rights to it.

Here's an accusation from this year.

Yet to be decided.

We can all judge for ourselves.

Dirks Bentley recorded "Home" ... was it plagerism ?

The writer of this song thinks so.

Its called "In A Razor Town"

Sounds like the same chord and vocal progressions to me. Lyrics might be different but there are similarities.

I don't know how to do the youtube thing, but "Look What You've Done" by Jet is an absolute, complete rip off of the Beatles "Sexy Sadie".
