Congrats Hunter and PikeFisher! It's great to see people taking the time to get kids out hunting and getting them hooked early.

Pike - I was surprised at how cooperative you and the other hunter were with each other, that was a pretty cool story. I'm pretty sure if I saw someone setup that close to a spot I wanted to hunt I'd back out because I'd figure we'd be in each others way but you two seemed to work it out just fine.

wow great job you 3 with your birds. 3 birds in season A is a pretty good start! Kind of adds alot of pressure to the rest of the team doesn't it...lol

I didn't get to get out over the weekend with my buddies kid but they heard some birds and had some close but couldn't close the deal...always next year. I leave for the DAV hunt in the morning...that is always a fun one. Good luck DrJ on your hunt!

Well it was another fun DAV hunt this year and he got a bird also. When we left it was 19 birds for 38 hunters which is pretty darn good if you ask me!

I just returned from my hunt. Hunted from 5am to 6pm through wind and rain and a few nice days. We were down by Caledonia and the birds didn't like us this year. I think they are already bred down there and the toms didn't show any interest in my decoys or calling. Very little gobbling with none on 2 of the days.I had some birds pretty close but they didn't strut and just went on there way. GREAT to be out again and enjoying mother nature. Good Luck to all. The TOMBOYS still need 1 more bird to get to 4. Sorry I couldn't get the job done this year.... DrJ.....

Nbadger23 how was the hunt? I can start on Wed but I won't be going till possibly Friday morning. My new bow won't be ready till Thursday and I don't think I can get it all set and sighted in on Thursday night so we will see.

Pike I didn't see your submission yet on the list?

I scored last Thursday in Minnesota on a bird. I haven't entered it yet because the birds in Wisconsin have been giving me the run around and I needed to ask Borch for some confirmation on what to enter. He wasn't the biggest bird in the world, only 19.4 lbs according to the sport shop scale and only 1" spurs on both sides but he did have 5 beards so I'm hoping he scores well. What an odd bird to go with a very odd hunt.

I was hunting a small woodlot that is surrounded by fields. They are usually roosted pretty well into the timber but I don't have permission to be in the woods so I set up on the fence line and hope to call them into the fields. I was going to do the same thing this year but when I got to the spot on the fence line I normally use I found a big tree had come down and I couldn't sit there. As luck would have it, the grassy drainage ditch/old fence line about 15 yards away in the field has an old sawed off tree on the end of it that's been brushing off over time. Between the brush on it and the grass in the fence line I figured I'd be covered and could see down both field edges. I put the decoy out, got under the brush and snapped a few branches out for comfort and sat down. This was around 5:15 or so. At 5:30 I haven't heard a thing so I did a few soft tree yelps... nothing. At 5:45 I do another set of tree yelps and right after I'm done I see a flash of black come straight down out of a tree 15 yards in front of me and hear a little 'whoosh' like sound. My brain immediately thought crow because of how many of them were flying around and how in the world could a turkey be roosted 15 yards away from me and not get spooked by me? Well, 30 seconds later, out walks a tom towards my decoy. I'm in the unenviable spot of still having my call in my hand and my gun on my lap. I drop the slate and striker to the ground between my legs and it doesn't make much sound given all the wet grass but the bird is getting kid of edgy now with that movement and the fact that my hen looks like she's been drinking all night. I some how set her up sideways in the dark so she's tilting to one side. He turns to walk away from me so I make the move for my gun and manage to get it up and get it centered on him I don't know what kicked in in my brain at that point but I made some sort of a noise that made him raise his head up and bam, down he went!

There's nothing like a lone shotgun blast at 5:45 a.m. on a foggy morning to make you sit back in amazement and say 'what the heck just happened???' How the heck I unknowingly got that close to that bird w/o spooking him is beyond me. It's a reminder to me to not get down when they aren't talking cause they can still be there.

I plucked some feathers from the neck to show the beards better. None of them are very big - mostly around 4-5 inches with the main one being 9 or so... but it's kind of neat.

well boys the weekend didn't happen for me. Got my new bow on Friday afternoon and was shooting some broadheads with it getting prepared for Saturday morning and ended up going to the hospital for stitches on my bow hand. The cut is right where my grip is(of course) so I wont be shooting till probably Wednesday now. I have it close tho so it should only take a few and I will be ready. Nice bow, dam slick tricks!

all black carbon fiber dip on it...tight spot quiver will be here this afternoon, Spot Hogg-it sight, Smack Down rest and of course the B-stinger stabilizer. Only shot it about 40 times but it was very nice! Hope to shoot it again Wednesday or so...don't want to risk ripping the stitches! frown

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
