zepman
Well, this afternoon the Viking's released Hutchinson, Griffen, and Hererra...all good moves IMO.I believe the Vikes have @ 23-25 million available under the cap to begin free agancy, which starts this Tuesday.I would hope they will be aggressive in signing a CB and a WR...among the many current needs. Two pro-bowls guards...Nicks and Grubbs are also available and it will be interesting to see if we go after one of these guys. It would make sense, since we just released both starting guards from last year.Let the games begin...
Dave S
good to see these guys sent packing as well as the Henderson brothers gone. The Vikes have a nice bank account to work with now. We'll see if they spend wisely.
zamboni
Could they have at least gotten a pick out of Hutch?
klecker
Less than 24 hr. till the queens start disappointing the fan base once again.A pick for hutch??????? An 11 year vet, keep dreaming!!!!
GFNER
I would have liked to seen the Vikes at least try to restructure Hutchs contract. I realize he's past his prime but if they could've signed him for significantly less I think he's valuable in the locker room or tutoring that new rookie coming our way. james_walleye
How do you know they didn't? It's probable that he said no way I'm taking less, I can get more elsewhere.
YiGGiN4SLoBS
Vikes made the right decision if thats the case... The line has been terrible with him the last two years and hes been injured as much as healthy in that stretch. It was a good decision to sign him when we did with the "poison pill" deal and its a good decision to get rid of him now to free up cap...Starting to come around to signing Garcon if the price is right. He should be alot less to sign then vin jack or any other of the so called "big namers" that are left and defenses would have to at least respect his speed and homerun ability a little. He could hopefully help back defenses off the line and open up some things.
zepman
I think Hutch will retire...he was leaning that way at the end of last year anyway. I believe he would have played one more year in Purple if his current salary hadn't been an issue...it was. I don't think his heart is in enough for him to play another year at a reduced salary. zepman
Looks like a few starting left tackles have been released from some teams...maybe we pick up one of these guys and go Blackmon in the draft???

Scott K
Yes the Vikings resigned him! We are now a complete team! Quote:Vikings re-signed DT Letroy Guion to a three-year contract.Guion drew three starts last season, two while filling in during Kevin Williams' two-game suspension. A promising but inconsistent rotational tackle, Guion has flashed in limited snaps since entering the league in 2008 as a fifth-round pick. YiGGiN4SLoBS
All I know is there are NO wide recievers left that are gonna make 1 bit of difference in FA. Carr signed with someone too, so.... yeah... Vikes not gonna get any better through FA, thats for sure. Dont know about you guys, but I cant wait to take a tackle with the 3rd overall pick, just cant wait....
mnviking28
Guion "flashed in limited snaps"?? Is that what they call jumping offsides and costing your team a game? I don't think I have seen a defensive tackle in the last 10 years on this team that got more offsides penalties in his "limited snaps"...give me a break! zepman
If they can get a starting middle linebacker it would be a good start. The guards are still out there too.
Fish Head
If they can get a starting middle linebacker it would be a good start. The guards are still out there too. Absolutely... I think it would be huge to sign one of these guards. Hutch needed to go. I love the guy, but he's 35, his shoulders are shot and he will never be a decent starter again. I've heard him interviewied and he knows it too. I'll be amazed if he doesn't retire. They need to rebuild that O-line and there are some great free agent guards out there. Signing one of the FA guards and drafting Kalil or Reiff would be great. They need to build that line before anything else on offense. It would have been nice to get one of the receivers, but be patient... this isn't a 1 year rebuilding project. They need 2 linebackers 2 safeties and corners too.
bdafisher
They better make some big moves in Free Agency, or else our pretty boy quarterback is going to look like minced meat 3 games into the season. There are definitely O-linemen out there for grabs that they can move on, and I am assuming they saw that or they would not have released their two guards. As far as wideout goes they need to make a move there two. Its not a league that you can "rebuild" for three years anymore. Free agency has changed that, and they should and can make a big splash at those positions. Don't forget we could sure use a serviceable back RB for our golden boy too. Too many holes to fill not to make moves in free agency, and too much cap room to only rely on the draft. My bet is look for big moves from these guys, maybe not the right moves but big moves none the less. PS. Is Favre still available?,

bdafisher
Free agency does not cure all, it is only an band aid. Proper drafting and developing players cure all!!!!!! It is a good balance of both that cures all, not one or the other. It is tough to develop a quarterback when he has no time and can't run the ball because of crappy o-line play. Do you really think the vikes can draft 2 guards and a left tackle that can start? Come on.
YiGGiN4SLoBS
They had better be going after one of the 2 big name guards since they will get nothing worth talking about at CB and WR in free agency. Then if they take Kalil and move Johnson to the other guard they may have a pretty decent offensive line. Shouldnt take much more then 1 or 2 years to rebuild in the NFL if your picking high in the draft and sign the right free agents. You see a team or two turn it around quickly every year. Bad thing is for the vikes, now that the bears got Marshall, this division is going to be REALLY GOOD. NFC north might be the best division in football this year. Vikes will be lucky to get to .500 the way its lookingAnd Klecker, i see your from Wisconson, so you must be referring to Ted Thompsons "brilliant" drafting when you say FA is a band aid.... So Reggie White and Charles Woodson must not have helped that much, huh? just band aids?
zepman
I think Spielman has learned from the past. ALL of the wide receivers were grossly overpaid today...look it up if you don't agree. Exception maybe being Jackson, who was the only real #1 WR. He was going to get paid either way.We went for Berrian a few years ago and spent a TON of money on him...bust! The WR's available mostly came from teams with a top 5 QB talent throwing them the ball...nobody knows what these guys will do with a different QB at the helm. Way too much $$$ thrown at these guys today IMO.I look for the Vikes to shore up at Linebacker...safety...and OL before FA ends. Compliment the rest of our very many needs throughout the draft...I think the Vikes make a deal with either Grubbs or Nicks...AP has had enough of getting pounded at the line and they need to protect their young QB.
