When I was sailing on Lake pepin (part of mississippi) back in 2008 a jet ski zipped right by us, Right afterward about 25 jumping carp following. My friend was like "WHAT IS THAT" I was going to report to the DNR but it appeared they already knew.

It seems like there should be an economic way to get rid of some of these invasives. Look at all the species that have been almost wiped out by over harvest. They should put a bounty on these carp like they did to crows back in the 50's and 60's. I'm sure they could find some use for the meat, if nothing else it would make good fertilizer. I know I would sure like to try some of those rusty crawfish in an etoufee.

One thing that has to be remembered about the silver carp is that they are primarily filter feeders, meaning that it is basically unlikely that you'll catch them on hook and line (without snagging them).

Hey RJMOEN, what the story on the blue sucker? What was it caught on? Was the hook in the mouth? There's a small group of us around who would die to catch one, so any info would help. Thanks.

If the northern conditions allow the same carp reproduction as in southern IA (Burlington Dam on the Miss) we'll soon be seeing monster bigheads stacked up below the dams up here.

Unfortunately, unlike in Iowa, snagging is illegal in MN. Wonder if that may ever get lifted (there are safety concerns with big trebles and big weights coming loose and heading back to the fishermen).

I would love to help keep the numbers down with a bighead snag-a-thon at the dams and I would have no trouble eating them from the river up here- I hear the bigheads taste great!

Tried filleting some silvers, it was pretty brutal at first as had no clue what I was doing, but got better by the 3rd and last one. Got some nice boneless "strips" and one decent sized fillet(pretty thin though)that was probably 25% of of total mass. Was flaky white meat that would be good for fish sticks, fingers, or for cakes. I do a roughfish smoke/fry every year and will try to get some more for this years party. They would probably win the best taste award. Although everyone is usually pretty much half under the bag up by judging time smile
