Fireline Crystal

Last year we took at trip to Lake Winnipeg for three days. I spooled my reels with 10lb Fireline Crystal backed by monofilament to keep the line from spinning on the reel. We are headed there again and I need to settle a question. My buddy says I need to respool my lines with Fireline Crystal and mono. I told him that I used the line for three days and the rods were stored in a rod bag since the day we left Canada. He said that if I don't I risk losing that big fish. My question is, "Is it necessary?". Fireline is about $15 for a 125 ft spool. Am I good to go or should I change it. Does it deteriorate over time? As I said it was in my rod bag since last Feb. Thanks for the opinions. Yes $15/spool is cheap when you look at the cost of the trip but this would save me some work. Also, does anyone use barrel swivels with Live Target lures? Last year we just used a snap to attach the lures. Am I affecting the action by not have a swivel?

Yep one of the many benifits of fireline and some other superlines. Pay more up front, but years of use. Another trick, if you find your line starting to weaken, is to spool it to another reel. The stuff on the bootom that never saw the sun or battled a fish, is just like new.

I find it takes a bit to break in the lines. They can be a little stiff and kinky at the begining, but after a few days on the water, they are much more limp with better lure action and sensitivity.
