Casting reel, quantum or shimano

jvm1

Question

Looking to get me a new reel this spring, debating between a shimano or a quantum. I'm looking to spend about 100 dollars on th ereel, nothing too fancy.

Anybody have any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the Quantum Accurist right now because of the flipping switch.

Haven't used the Accurist, so I'm not 100% certain that it falls into Quantum's range of "good" baitcasters. The higher end Quantum gear is great though, I really like my Smoke (and it just looks so cool too). I think most will tell you to spend a few extra bucks and get a Shimano Citica though. Although at the $160 mark in Cabelas bargain cave the Quantum Tour Edition PT is looking like a good deal if you can swing the extra $60.

I've had an Accurist for a couple of years and you can't go wrong for the money. As said another $60-70 you can step up to a Revo SX which I also have and it is a definate set up. But if the $100 figure is what you have to work with than the Accurist is a great choice.

I have many many miles on a Abu Garcia C4 series reel. Around a hundred bucks, dead simple, no gimmicks.

I even have a 1956 model I got off Flea bay for $29 that only required a Disassemble, clean and lube and has given me years of use.

I have had a couple of Quantum accurists for at least 4 years that get used almost every day for rigging or jigging for walleyes. They have held up very well and have worked flawlessly.

The flipping switch is a must have for rigging or jigging!

Ditto on every point!

Talk about timing I just received my new Quantum PT Tour this week and it is replacing a Accurist that is four years old. The Accurist has tons of time on it and still works, it is just going to sit in the bottom of the boat a little more. The new PT is in a word SWEET really looking forward to fishing with it this summer. On a side note there is a mail in rebate for a 70.00 fishing jersey when you buy the PT not a reason to buy the reel but will make a nice gift I figure.

I have never found a 6.00 tee shirt to cover my gut with a picture of a purtty fish on it! grin

Your gut has a picture of a fish on it?

I guess if it is worth 64 bucks to have a picture on your shirt then go for it. If it is a size thing, I think Fleet Farm probably can get the job done. They have some big stuff.

smile Like I said the jersey cost 6.95 for shipping, but you already know that since you looked it up. Not a reason to buy the reel but who turns down rebates? As for the Accurist I would buy another if I could find them for the same price I bought my original at which was like 70.00 but putting the two reels side by side the PT is so much lighter and at 7.1 it is a "Burner" which is what I was looking for.
