shamalex72
I really just want to go look into the lake at all the fish but a small northern or two would be good.. That sounds like me. We do a whole lot more watching than spearing.I used a Amish made spear for a while and it worked pretty good. Fleet farm sells some spears, not sure who makes them. Lately I have using my homemade spear.

MJ1657
I speared for years with a Holiday Plus spear which is just a cheap spear and it works great. I got a Roger Cook blacksmith spear this year and so far it seems great but I haven't got to throw it much. I was worried about going from a 4.5 lb. spear to a 9 lb. but honestly its balanced so well I can't tell much difference.Spearing rough fish is fun. I stuck a 24 lb. carp last year which was a little tough on my cheap spear but it was fun.
Gordie
Decoys will become an addiction in itself like fishing tackle you can never have enough But I do know quite a few guys that all they use is just a live decoy and that is it and they do very well. there is also guys that only use fake decoys and do very well.. I also use a Roger Cook hand made spear and I have a few vintage ones that I like to throw I have also made a few myself that I like. Gordie
Personal preference but I would go with the 7 toner my self that's what I throw
smeese
How deep do people usually spear? I suppose it depends on clarity but does anyone try to lure big fish up to the surface out of deeper water?
Archerysniper
My normal depth is around 14 FOW
Gordie
I have speared pike over twenty plus fow and done quite well pike are looking for that easy meal like the panfish that guys throw back and that can't quite swim so good so I will set up kind on the outside of the panfish crowds/ area on a lake I think the deepest I speared over was 36 feet .I typically run my decoys 3 foot down to 1 foot under the ice
