Lake of the Woods Morson Fishing Reports by Tolen's

Recommended Posts

a little of both. I would not go without an extension as ice thickness varied in a few spots we tried. They don't take up any room and will save the day if you need it. I did see some pictures from somewhere out of Sioux Narrows of a sled stuck in the slush but I don't know exactly where it was.

Thanks a lot! We're pretty accustomed to slush so I'm not real worried about getting stuck since we stay mobile and don't pull portables.

The reason I ask about extensions is because I'm bringing my strikemaster just as a backup and don't have an extension for it. I've never been close to needing one on WFB in the last 5-10 years so it caught me off guard. I don't want to buy one at $40 because I'm going to be selling the auger before next year... hate that POS.

Got out today to do a little Lake Trout fishing. The last cold day has really helped freeze up the slush spots. Travel is still rough but having to not mess with slush is a world of relief. We left Morson and traveled to White Fish Bay this morning around 7:30 .Set up and had a fish on around 9ish. Marked a bunch of sometihng on the vexliar (Perch I Believe, caught a couple )Caught some and lost some fish today. All in all a great adventure. We made it back over to Morson side of the lake to pick up some eaters for supper and a great slab Crappie too.

Here's a few pictures of today's outing

Have a good one

I was not fishing in Morson this weekend ( Fished with Ice Team this weekend)

But I talked to a couple guys and things look good in WFB ,we got only a inch of snow. And its been cold so some of the slush has frozen. I plan on being up on that end of the lake later this week. Have a good one

Spent the last couple weekends in WFB. There is still lots of snow and travel conditions vary with weather. The cold days/nights make travel easy, there is a hard top layer of snow. Warm days/nights get the snow soft and sticky and the slush starts to show up. A few warm days in a row could make a real mess for travel up there. There's a lot of water under the hard crusted snow.

Oh yeah and lots of hard drifts, we didn't drive very fast or they beat us and our equipment up.

Well , Winter is not quite over crazy We got at least a foot of new snow . On Sunday it warmed up enough to make some slush spots. Then the snow started. We were still catching fish, it may be a couple days before I have more info.

Heres a few pictures from the weekend

We fished Thursday to Saturday. Had a great time and got on some fish. Caught trout, whitefish, walleyes, tullibee and even found a new crappie spot. Travel on the lake was good but hole drilling was a lot of work in the spots with slush.

The group that was out this weekend said walleye fishing was slow. The traveling was good. On Sunday once you jumped off the sleds it was not that fun walking around. WET was the word.

Spring is in the AIR

Well that's not what I want to hear! Thanks for the update.

We called our contact up there last night and they thought it would be fine this weekend yet as the weather is to remain pretty cool still. Said there was about 28" of ice still.

We will be checking in again tomorrow to ensure it's not a wasted trip

Was able to fish around whitefish bay 4/25-4/27. Ice is still 2.5ft thick. Just be sure to stay away from dark spots. Ran into a few slush pockets, but nothing to bad. Travel was pretty good. And the lake trout were biting pretty well too. 42 fish 25"-34" for 4 guys.

Shore lines were starting to get hairy, but main lake ice was good.

If I knew how to post a pic, I would!

Eastwind

Most of Sabaskong Bay is out, There is still some ice on the way to miles. (This from one of the local guides). With all this rain and wind today/tonight the ice is taking a beating.

Cheers
