Got back last night from up there. Fished Thrusday afternoon through Saturday and between two of us iced 146 walleye/sauger. Many were in the 10-13" range, but had a lot of 13-17" fish, a few 23", and the biggest was 25", also iced 3 eelpout. We had 12-13" of ice in most places with good travel for wheelers and sleds and minimal breakers.

Fish bit on minnows under bobbers, spoons, lindy darters, blade baits, and rapala clackin' raps. Bigger fish came on the daters and raps and were suspended from 6-17 feet off the bottom. Watch your graphs! Good luck!

What sort of structure are you fishing in the winter in that area? Any certain depth you look for? Is it mostly a low light hours bite? We pounded A LOT of holes in Miles Bay area last January and only managed a handful of fish right at sundown. We hit island points, reefs, etc all day and really didn't see much of anything. There was not much sign that anybody had fished in Miles either...maybe we shouldn't have headed that way it sounds like? Just curious as it was our first run over that way in the winter and it was a long run for not much results...

We focused our fishing on shorline structure that extended out into the lake with very gradual drop offs into larger basins. We did not catch anything on the very steep drop offs. The shallowist we fished was 22 feet and the deepest was 26, seemed 23-24 was the best producing. The bite started around 730am and went all day until 430pm, you could plan on packing up around 5 as wel marked very few fish past 430 and didn't catch many of them.

Hey all

Update on the ice, 15 inches on most parts of the area around Morson (main lake) narrows around pine island 7 or 8 inches . Truck travel out of government dock and Big Island Reserve .. Talked with my uncle who lives on White Fish Bay ,he said there is close to a foot of ice with 3 to 4 inches of snow. I will be out again tomorrow moving shacks and will have a update on the WALLEYE fishing.

Cheers

Got to meet Rob and fam up at Pelican Landing this weekend. Thanks for the hospitality.

Fished Whitefish on Fri, Sat, & Sunday. Caught 26 trout, 6 pike, and one huge whitefish between four of us. Wasn't stellar, but it was definitely enough to keep us interested. Lots of fun with three great friends. Weather was great. Ice ranged from 7-11 inches. Wasn't tons of snow, but there is quite a bit of slush.

Rob,

Having lodged with you, I agree, you have great cabins for rent. Great snowmobile access to LOTW, whether a party is going West for waleyes or North/NE for Lakers. Still trying to put a trip together for this Winter but not looking very promising. frown

So,which crappie hole are you referring to, Hay Island or Miles Bay?

Eastwind

We went to Miles this time.

The ride up and back was good ,no ice ridges to cross. Good snow cover.

Being that it was a little windy yesterday we didn't move around, here is a couple pictures full-39664-29436-103_0586.jpg

We caught Crappies, Walleyes , Perch and Tullibee all out of one spot.

Was out this past weekend (1/26) in the Morson area and had great luck. Lots of ice where we were - around 2 feet. Fished walleye off a popular point in 21 feet of water. Had the best luck on a gold lead head, a plain white glow hook w/ splitshot, and a gold chubby darter even caught a couple. Snowmobile conditions were perfect with about 8 to 12 inches of snow on the ice. Didn't run into any slush but we didn't put on a lot of miles. Saw two full size trucks out with permanents and about 20 sleds hauling otters (the way to go in my opinion). Headed back up soon with a new snow machine in tow and can't wait to test it out.

We got out today to do a little LAKE TROUT fishing. We took sleds from the resort in Morson up to White Fish Bay. There was some slush in White fish , Nothing to worry about. Caught a few and lost more the a few. Used a white tube and Jig, Here is a couple pics from today. If a trip like this sounds like something you would like to do , We can make it happen.

Cheers
