frogtosser
Did anyone watch this on Versus today? Its a pretty cool concept and at the end there was a tie between Keith Combs and Mike Iaconelli, for a tiebreaker they had a fish off instead of by big fish. The winner was the fisrt person to catch a legal 14inch fish, which took them longer then you would think. While Combs ended up catching one and when Iaconelli's judge got the call he went nuts. Mike got mad and broke his rod against the boat and then threw the rest of it in the lake, what a poor sportsman. I dont know why people like this [PoorWordUsage], he's always been a hot head and a poor sport. My 8 yr old son was watching it with me so at least I got to tell him how what he saw on tv is not the way to act when you lose. They are rebroadcasting it on Dec 21st at 3pm also if anyone wants to see it. What do you guys think of seeing him act this way again?
toadbelly
we saw that too (kids and I)I thought it should have been edited outif I was the company that sponsors him with rods and reelsI'd fire him!!I don't care who he is... disrespect my product like that (temper tantrum)you would be fired very poor sportsmanship on his partjust my thoughts

TurnUpTheFishing
I can see why some people dont like him. There are times when Ill see him "go ike" and just shake my head but come on the guy has an intense passion for fishing and is competitive you can definitely see it. I would bet that when Ike saw the other competitor he shook his hand and gave him a "congrats" but idk, someone can tell me if that is or is not the case.Come on the guy really, really wants to win. Ever seen the video of him snapping his line, and him jumping off the boat (while still holding onto the rail), grabbing the line, and hand landing the fish? That is the type of guy he is and that is entertaining to me. How many other guys would just shrug it off or say a few choice words and move on? TR21HP
This is a perfect example of camera access and sports. It could have easily been edited out but the channel decided to keep it in. How many times have you seen coaches of any sport get interviewed too soon after a loss and say or do regrettable things? No different here, plus the man just lost 100K! I don't know if I would have reacted to that extent but I certainly wouldn't have just smiled and said congrats to Coombs either. I had the pleasure of fishing with larry Nixon as a coangler in a tourney when he lost a fish at the boat that would have won the tourney and just before time ran out. He politely turned to the camera man and said it's time to turn that camera off!, he did and Larry went off. He is normally one of the nicest gentleman on the circuit but he went Ike for sure on that one. He did apologize afterwards for the outburst though. corncob
Come on folks, Ike is a first class bonehead, and, acts just like a child having a temper tantrum....He has done [PoorWordUsage] like this time and time again...There is no excuse for his behavior....Saying he is competitive and wants to win soooo bad is absolutely no excuse whatsoever....All the participants in tournaments want to win bad, but dont act like him....What would it be like if all of them acted like Ike?....He needs some anger management! Friar_Tuck
hes a first class bonehead grizilla? ya thats why hes made it to the big time as an elite fisherman while your sitting on this board whining about him lolwhy can't ike be like mike vs someone hes not or some other person you want him to be? thatoneguy
Ike is a great fisherman, friar, but he's also an annoying dork. Don't fault people for ripping him; he acts like a spaz in good times, and like a spoiled child other times. Two thumbs down.
Superduty
I understand why people like to hate Ike. Some of the things he does on camera are bad for the sport. However, I can relate to the intense competitiveness that pushes him over the limit of good taste sometimes. Anybody that ever played hockey might know what I'm talking about! Ike is successful whether you like him or not. Normal well balanced people don't often succeed at the highest levels. Sometimes it takes a chip on your shoulder to get to the top. smalliehunter
he needs to learn how to suck it up and be a man instead of acting like a child. He has allot of knowledge but a bad attitude
Larson15
Thats just the way he is and it needs to be accepted. No point in him in trying to be something he's not. If you dont like him, dont watch him. If you worried about him being a "role model", turn on Bill Dance. Believe it or not alot more anglers act out like this on a regular basis, its just not showed. Being the guy Ike is, TV looks for it.If he needs to break rods and throw stuff to calm him self down, so be it. He's not making mulit-millions, taking steroids, selling drugs or raping woman like alot of other role models do. At least he is showing an incredible amount of competitiveness. frogtosser
I'm not saying he should have just said aw shucks I just lost, but no one is more competitive then KVD and you dont see him breaking rods or flags and throwing them in the water. He is a good fisherman, thats why hes on the trail, but I still dont like watching him, and I do mute it when he screams like a girl. You do see baseball players breaking bats and slamming helmets, and when I played jr high baseball I slammed my bat once after striking out cause I saw it on tv. My dad saw this and made it clear to me that was the last time I was gonna do that, so does that mean I dont break my rods after losing a big fish or a tourny I'm not competitive? I dont buy that excuse and I hope they drop him, but thats just my opinion.
walleye365
Drop him thats never goin to happen believe it or not Mike bein Mike is why he has the sponsors he has because the cameras are on him people are goin to watch.I dont always agree with the way he acts either, but no matter what we think of Ike he is here to stay. TurnUpTheFishing
KVD is a completely different person. You can have your opinions about people and there personalities but you cant expect them to change just because you dont like them or the way they act. Watch any sport and your bound to see people get worked up in the heat of the moment, its not exclusive to Mike. Ive read that Mike was/is taking anger management courses so he is aware that he can be a little too intense sometimes.Lots of people tune in to see Mike "go Ike", and the producers know its entertaining TV and thats why they put it out there. Working off TR21hp's post, Nixon did it off camera but still had an outburst. I cant help but wonder how much of it is hammed up by Ike for the camera because he knows it gets him face time. smalliehunter
Its fishing, not reality tv. We should be entertained by the guys out there catching biggins and explaining how they do it and not waiting for someone to act like a fool because they did or didn't catch a fish. Everyone has an opinion which is fine. That's just what I think. He is the type of guy I think either you love or hate him

But now with sponsors trying to keep their products in front of consumers. It's becoming what ever sells or wins is all that counts. Maybe he gets a few bucks more for acting like a jerk. corncob
Ike is a great fisherman ,and, he is also the kind of guy that needs to have his rear kicked for being an out of control narcissist that needs to learn to follow the rules like anyone else....What would society be if we all acted like him?....I can take him or leave him, yet, supporting him is nonsense, unless , of course , you act like him also? What do you mean follow the rules? Did he break any rules? Honest question, I dont know what you mean by this. What would society be like if we all were the same mindless drones, with blue jeans and white T shirts, acting merely as society wanted, as to not upset the herd?Like I said I can totally get why people dont like him and I by no means love the guy but he is who he is and I feel he is only hurting himself by having any sort of tantrums or big celebrations. Until it starts getting unsportsmanlike towards other people I just say let him be who he is.
Friar_Tuck
and I hope they drop him, but thats just my opinion. really? wow you want a mans livelihood taken away cuz he doesn't play the way you want him to. the whole elite trail would be less than without him.pretty amazing you can judge a guy solely on what you see on tv. what do you really know about mike? probably not much. i bet if you actually spent a day with him you would have a very different opinion of him.
