1 man flip over ice house suggestions...

Are there any small 1 man flip over sled style ice houses that will fit into the trunk or back seat of a 4 door honda accord? I used to put my clam 2000 suitcase style house back there but got rid of it because it didn't pull that nice in deep snow. Any suggestions?

I would look at a clam Trapper or Scout TC. they are basically the same size the only difference is the Scout TC has the thermal cap and a padded swivel seat. the Trapper just comes with a clam cooler folding chair. there dimensions are 36" W X 50" L X 14" T

the other clam you could check out is a kenai. It is 35" W X 59" L X 17" T

a nice house from otter is thier pro xt900 cottage ultra wide one man. it is 32" W X 54" L X 18 " T

the other option you could look at is getting a hub style house. this would fit in a car better.

all dimension listed are pack size not set up size.

Flip over styles can be a tough fit for your vehicle ... Not sure your fishing style, but I would think a hub style shack would be a better fit for something like a Honda Accord.

Since I picked up my hub, my FishTrap Pro gets a lot less use, primariy becuase it is easier to haul in my vehicle.

If I have access to a Snowmobile or wheeler, then I almost always use my flipover with a tow hitch.

I fit a Frabill Recon in the back of a VW Jetta, I'm sure it will fit in an Accord wink

It's a good one man. The only thing I don't like it the lack of a door. But, for the $170 I paid for it, I'm fine without a door. I can fit two holes, one with a deadstick, my Vex and a heater inside it. With the heat on low, I'm nice and comfy.

Dave, I assume the back seats fold down in your Accord. Just grab a tape measure and see what the available length and width are. Height would be important also. Even if you don't feel like looking on the manufacturers web sites I'm sure one of us here would do it for you. Maybee even a team effort. I guess my point is if you provide the dimensions we could give you a list of houses that would fit.

Check out the Otter Pro Cottage wich is full thermal with a real nice padded swivel seat or the Wild Cottage wich has a thermal top and bench seat. Go to your local sporting goods store and check them out and see if you think it will work. You can see all the info on them at www.otter.com

A lot on the market are very well built. If going to be pulling a lot by hand, I might suggest Clam, as they make a very light weight unit. If going to be pulling with a sled or 4 wheeler.. Otter all the way.. Best sled hands down.

I own an otter so I may be biased some.. but I have been more than pleased with it.

Another vote for the Frabill Recon DLX. If size is an issue you can remove the bench seat to save some height. They are small and light, and I think they are well put together. I feel they don't need a door as I'd have to crawl out of it to use it, and they flip so easily it's not an issue. Also due to their small size they heat back up very quickly after a flip. I also like the swing-out stays to hold the front open so it acts as a windbreak.

Ive used the flip overs(never owned one) and own a hub now. Used the hub bout 5 times. I really like the size. Its 6 foot square and almost 6 1/2 in the center. Even a flip over you can stand up in is so big I cant fold my toneau down at least the ones ones of compareable size.

If I had a car i would go with HUB just on the matter of sheer size. its always nice to have too much room than not enough

I bought a Frabill Recon at the end of last season, and like McGurk says seems very well built( have a clam guide also and thats well built also).

I am 6'6 so the Recon does seem a bit "tight" for me though.

McGurk how do you set up inside the recon, what do you heat it with? I was only able to use it once after I bought it and it was tough to figure out where to put every thing, as I am used to a two man flip.

I'm not McGurk, but I am going to respond anyway smile

I also have the Recon DLX. My setup is as follows. One hole punched off my left foot (jigging hole) and one hole set up in front of my right foot (bobber hole) Electronics go in jigging hole, tackle box goes in the tub beneath the seat, bucket is directly behind me, heater is in tub behind bucket facing the rear of the house on low. Completely comfortable and warm.

edited for lack of clarity.

I like to fish with the flasher sitting tight to the house with the transducer in a hole behind it that I fish out of. You can drill 2 holes side by side if you want, but I like to concentrate on one line. Heater behind me if needed at all.

I also like to drill a line of 3 connected holes and sight fish in clear or shallow water. It will be a mess and you will take more time to clear out the holes but I enjoy fishing this way without a flasher. Start between your ankles and go out far enough that you can jig easily. You may get a sore back if you are fishing too deep with this method as you are looking straight down for long periods of time, whether you are looking at the flasher or at the jig itself.

Thanks That Guy! Sunflower heater? I figured alot of stuff would end up behind me in the tub, there is alot of room back there.

I have a buddy heater, so I can get away with the back of it touching my bucket.

To be clear, my flasher between the holes is pretty close to the canvas and typically requires a little movement in order to flip the shack back over.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
