Cold weather outer wear

I think only having floating bibs may hurt your chances. I could picture a guy bobbing feet up in the water. Morbid I know. Amateurfishing. I doubt you offended anyone. I know I wasn't. You were stating your opinion. You're entitled to that. This site is far more forgiving of opinions than some other message boards I read.

thx for the comments, thats why i am amateur, but i dont fish on any larger lakes either (at least not yet). always learning something new & more on this site every day. hope i did not offend anyone....anyone know the $ of those AA?

the complete Arctic Armor goes for $329.99

if you buy just the parka it is $179.99

if you buy just the bibs it is $159.99

A complete strikemaster suit at full price is $280.00 ($140 for each price). the best deal on a strike master suit is at the ice show for $190.00 for the complete suit. they may also have a web site special on the suit at this same price during the season. you need to sign up for their email news letter to get the HSOforum specials. I know when I got mine two season ago they had the show price as the web site special also.

At some point in time I will be getting the arctic armor suit but for now I just put on a life jacket when checking out the early ice plus I also check the ice with a spud bar as I walk out. I will also drill holes as I go and check it that way.

Ok, so What if..........

What if your wearing your Artic Armor while driving your truck, and then it goes through, I mean all the way under.... The floatation would pin you to the roof of your truck, then if you could get out of that you could end up pined to the bottom of the ice, then have fun trying to find the hole.....

I guess this is the only downfall to a product that would in any other circumstance save a persons life.....

Yep, nothing wrong with putting on a good ol PFD for extra measure on a non-floating suit.

When it came time for me to purchase a suit, I also factored in how much time I spend in the boat in the early spring and late fall when the temps are hovering around freezing. Admittedly I don't wear a PFD often, and while this suit isn't one, it is a decent substitute.

Amfish, no offense taken. BassKnuckles, from what I have heard, the bibs alone will keep you afloat. The price for the whole suit is about $300. Not the cheapest, not the most exspensive. I also really like the piece of mind wearing the bibs only while fishing on Lake Superior in the spring. I'm pretty sure they were in the boat well into June this past year.

when I drive my truck out I drive with the door held open enough that if the truck drops in the door will hang up on the ice buying me enough time to jump out. as for floating under the ice. it doesn't matter if you have the suit or not if you are completely under they say not to panic and to look for the dark spot in the ice. most people will normally think to look for the white spot but the opposite is true since the ice is all white and any holes in it will appear black.

does AA do any show specials?

they don't do any show specials. a matter of fact two years ago at the ice show one of the retailers there got in trouble with AA when they were offering 10% off the suit. once AA found out about this the retailer had to stop the 10% off or they would of risked loosing their AA account. this is what I heard so I take it for what it is(maybe wrong).

I bought the Frabill FXE bibs from Thorne Bro's this year, and hope they're worth the money.

My old snowmobile bibs weren't waterproof and I got sick of having wet knees.

I've heard that some bibs like the Arctic Armor ones are much lighter and easier to walk in. But, not as warm. Some guys sweat in a t-short and shorts out on the ice, but not me!

I have the strikemaster suit and love it. i was out in some really cold weather, -20 and it kept me warm and i am a guy that gets cold quick. It really kept me warm and dry the whole season. Best part with the ice show coming up you can get it there at a really low price.

I agree with the poster that said that all of these modern ice suits are great, well thought out and designed. I ended up with the Srikemaster one and aside from being very warm, comfortable, and dry, (As I imagine all of these new suits are) what I liked about this was the value. My feeling is that dollar for dollar this suit can't be beat. $190 (ice show special) is a steal.

Im pretty sure they are less than that even. i believe they were $160 last year.

200 or less for the whole suit? They must run out fast! Hopefully they still have one on sunday.

So I received my bibs today from Ree8s and I ended up ordering the camo ones. These bibs are super light compared to the Clam ones that I ordered earlier and returned. Does anyone know if the material is different for the camo ones versus the other colors? If not then these should be sweet!

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
