james_walleye
The broncos didn't have to resort to the read option with elway. Hardly the same coaching philosophy.
FISHINGURU
If Tebow can improve on his passing game (which his coaches thinks he has) he could be decent in the future. The college style game calling won't last but if Tebow can learn to pass better with his threat of running he could end up decent. Have to wait and see his progress, I could see him being a Big Ben type QB as his ceiling.
Bran32
Your exactly right Elway threw the ball 50 times per game under Reeves!! That is why John was heartbroken when Reeves got fired!! Handing the ball off to Steve Sewell and Sammy Winder 35 times a game may not be the option offense but it sure didn't make John real happy. But what do I know after living in Denver almost all my life!!!
james_walleye
Never in the NFL has a team resorted to running the read option to accomodate a qb because the coaches believe he can't succeed in any kind of traditional NFL offense. Philosophies may have changed under elways reign but never at any time was it because the coaches believed elway couldn't throw the ball. In the time of elway you won superbowls by handing the ball off. Moving to a run heavy philosophy very much made sense. In this age of the NFL more than ever you have to be able to pass at a very above average rate. His coaches are afraid to pass and have resorted to gimmicks.Bottom line is the broncos have won 4 of 5 inspite of him, not because of him. I cant imagine being in a worse qb situation. I mean what has anyone seen to think this guy can be a qb long term?? IMO the clear outcome is that broncos fans will regret wasting this and any future time with tebow. Bran32
And we were 1-4 with your typical pocket passer (Orton) who also had a guy named Brandon Lloyd to throw to! And 3-10 the year before that with Lloyd making the Pro Bowl and 8-8 with same QB throwing for almost 4000 yds and to Brandon Marshall!! 8-8 in 2008 before that with another pure passer (Cutler) throwing for 4500 yds! And 7-9 With Cutler throwing for 3500 yds the year before that! You are right once again though, being able to throw equals wins, Especially in Denver
james_walleye
It's all good. If broncos fans want to ignore how well the defense has played in this 5 game stretch and give credit to a qb leading an offense to 14 points a game in that stretch, doesn't matter to me. You would think the broncos were putting up 35 a game judging by your posts lol. You have a stat on defensive points allowed during this 5 game stretch vs every other stretch of time you listed? I'm guessing you have a short term memory reguarding that......
Bran32
Where did I say that Tebow is playing great????????????? I said give him a chance to play because some guy in 1983 didn't look very good either!!! I like when people put words in my mouth, look back I said he will not become an Elway but if he throws for 130 and rushes for 70 and our NEW stud D (which also gave up 99 points to the Packers and Lions) keeps playing the way they are we are in ok shape!! Judging by my posts I would say you have not read them! ONE AGAIN GIVE THE KID A CHANCE!! THAT IS ALL THAT I AM SAYING!! Is that clear enough I better start the Vikings need to get rid of Christian Ponder debate because he has worse stats than Tebow and has the best running back in the game so Ponder should be lighting it up!! Get rid of him I think your wasting your time with Ponder!! Give me a break these young kids just need a chance if they fail so be it!! RiverFish
It will be interesting to see what Tebow does weeks 12-16 At SD, At Vikings, Bears at home, Patriots at home, At Buffalo. Lets see how Denver plays in these games.
james_walleye
In your last post did you not give credit to 4-1 to tebow and not having to throw the ball to win games???? Did you not mention 1-4 with the traditional NFL style qb. Seems to me that when someone says that it implies the offense is really clicking all of a sudden. You just listed seasons or stretches of seasons of broncos mediocrity. Stretches where I know the offense put up huge numbers. I didn't list that, you did. Never once mentioning the defenses role in these stretches as if it had nothing to do with past mediocrity or present success. Now this qb has them in a stretch at 4-1. I mean that whole post, and knowing how good that broncos offense was the past couple years, implies that ahhhhh, now the broncos finally have got the offense where it needs to be, which to me says they must be scoring a ton to get to 4-1. That IS the way it sounded judging by the evidence you presented. If someone would have read that not knowing the real situation, Yup, would have thought they were tossing up 35 points a game all of a sudden. I know I'm rambling, just backing up my post. Still waiting for those points allowed stats on those stretches of seasons you listed as well. Just once I would like to see credit given where it is due Reguarding 4-1. Tebows inadequacies leave the broncos down 13-10, or 14-0 in the 4th quarter, he makes a drive and everyone bows to him. He was just listed the #1 most over rated player in the NFL by the players themselves. Not really sure how when its just broncos fans that think something of him. But just goes to show.... james_walleye
And you can say whatever you want about ponder, but his coaches haven't felt the need to run a college offense that has zero chance to work in the longterm because they don't think he stands a chance in a traditional NFL offense. That says it all on tebow. I mean if you broncos fans are happy with 4th quarter comebacks against mediocre to bad NFL teams, more power to you. Like I said, there is a difference between winning games, and "winning games".
Bran32
Good lord, you have no clue!!! My comment on Ponder was called sarcasm, he has only started 3 games how would I know if he will be good or not? None of us do, besides you! 3 starts and 8 starts, yep, that's enough to know if they'll both be good qb's I could have swore winning was winning but I guess when you lose all the time your perspective gets skewed!! Oh yeah and we got pretty used to 4th quarter comebacks in Denver!!! But I guess we didn't WIN those games either because there is winning games, and "winning games". james_walleye
I know its sarcasm dude. And i cant help that you missed that the post was a burn on Tebow and not propping Ponder up lol. I dont know if Ponder will be the answer but one thing is for sure, he has shown more to think he will be a better long term answer than Tebow and the read option. Winning is winning. But there is a difference between winning a few regular season games and winning games that matter in the playoffs and there is ZERO chance the broncos make a playoff run running that garbage!! So have fun with that roadblock at QB! Talk about a situation going no where in a hurry!!Speaking of having no clue.....i think that expresses the bronco fan base pretty well for thinking what you are all seeing is going to lead to anything long term!! Haha the read option...good lord. Be excited for that defense, not that garbage offense thats being run and putting up 14 points a game. If the broncos would have had a defense playing like this with Cutler around a couple years ago, playoff runs would have been made.
Antero
Denver at SD this weekSD has lost 5 in a rowDenver has won 4 of 5 since Tim took overSD is a 6 pt favoriteThat is all you need to know

goblueM
that was an ugly game. it was like neither team wanted to win. one of Tebow's better passing games though
james_walleye
I think Turner is a giant chicken sh* with that play calling right before the missed FG. The guy missed a 48 yarder in the 2nd half, why do they settle for such a long attempt. And then on top of it get knocked back 5 yards to a 53 yarder??? Way to give away a game Norv. Denvers defense is playing great, I wish people would give credit where credit is due with these wins.
goblueM
yep. i thought the same thing James, why try a 53 yarder with how inept denver's offense is? Play the field position game.
RiverFish
Tebow is not the reason Denver is winning. Tebow however is not losing the game for them either.Tebow is not a Franchise QB.
Antero
Tebow is not the reason Denver is winning. Tebow however is not losing the game for them either.Tebow is not a Franchise QB. Bingo.....he is doing very well, no turnovers, key runs, a good throw here and there. No turnovers is they key to me. If a team protects the ball they usually will have a chance to win. Now Minny gets to see Tebow Time up close! What has happened to SD.....altho the Broncs D was all over Rivers he does not seem to be the passer of the past. B. Amish
rivers throwing motion is worse than tebow's.
RiverFish
He is not doing "very well".If you had to pick one QB in the NFL to lead a game winning drive, Tebow is not even on that list.He is managing a team whose Defense is playing great. Averaging 14 points a game is an offense that will not last in the NFL.
creepworm
I think he's downright bad. Denver will not keep winning playing this offense. I don't get people giving him so much credit for the 4-1 record. Give me Von Miller off that defense a hundred times over a qb that can only succeed running the read option. Zero chance this "success" amounts to anything. Talk about having a roadblock at the qb position. Defense looked bad and Tebow looked pretty good yesterday. He continues to win.
goblueM
correction: The Broncos, as a TEAM continue to winby playing good special teams, good defense, using the clock to their advantage, and not turning the ball over. I will say Tebow looked better as a passer this week, it wasn't even cringe-worthy!
nofishfisherman
I think we made Tebow look pretty good yesterday. Most of his completions and all of his big completions game with completely blown coverage. Our CB's released at least 3 WR's to a nonexistent safety and each time Tebow made an easy pass for either a big gain or a score. When guys are wide open it doesn't take a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers to get them the ball.
