I've been out 2x in the last couple of days.

This past Saturday I was on Deer Lake, by Deer River, MN.

2 of us fished from 9:30 am to about 4:00pm. Water temps were at 48 degrees and the tulibees were suspended off their spawning areas in 15-30' of water. While casting we saw 1 small muskie and while trolling I landed a 37.50" northern that was CPR'd. I caught that one in about 20' of water on a metallic green Grandma Crankbait.

Monday I hit Big Cutfoot Sioux by Winnie. I fished from 9:30 am to about 3:30 pm. I just trolled and found water temps at 48 degrees. I tried depths from 8' to 40' and caught 1 31" northern in 11' of water and had 2 other hits. One was definitely a big fish that hit a Ciscoe colored Bulldawg I was trolling in 25' of water. A couple of big head shakes after I set the hook and it was gone.........:(

If the weather stays like this I might get out one more time.

When trolling is 2.5 mph too fast or too slow for this time of year?

2.5 is definitely not too fast. I generally troll from 3 to 4 mph in the fall, and have caught fish going as fast as 5. It may be cold, but they can still move fast, and are still triggered by speed...

Sometimes, when fish seem "off" but you think they're around, a really fast trolling speed - 4.5 to 5 - can work very well.

Went to the big v this weekend and gave it a good go all weekend. Seen three fish, one pig. Water temp was 45 ish. Very windy. One hit on the L turn. Caught 3 nice pike but musky were very slow. Tullies were not huddled up or shallow yet and tuff to find. Tuff fishing but good laughs.

i got a fair amount of time on the lake inbetween sitting in the deer stand the last few weekends. overall action was a little sub par and no really big fish but we got a handful of nice ones along with some good pics and video and had a good time. hopefully something big happens in the next 3 weeks, probably back in the metro for the rest of the season.

Wish I could still get out. My season ended the 13th. Due to a flat in late October we had to put the spare on. Upon arriving at the cabin on the 13th the sidewall on the spare had given out; and having not yet replaced the other tire the boat was unable to travel. On the plus side we know nobody will be able to steal the boat over the winter.

A buddy and I went out on Minnetonka Friday and had two different fish follow in the same spot. Then saw another posted up under a bridge while driving through. Threw a bucktail back at it with no reception. Kept moving, and wished the guys sucker fishing close by luck. I wonder if it ever ate for them... Maybe they are on here? It was really windy saturday so we went out for a couple hours and sat with some small suckers where we saw those two fish the day before. No luck. Disappointing way to end the season.
