A/C Hose

Recommended Posts

If it is the rear lines, and you find that you dont use it that often, (or can live without it) there are kits available for this exact scenario to block off the lines to the rear. This way you can recharge it and still have full use of the normal (front) air conditioning.

It can be a good, less expensive alternative, even if it is only temporary until you have the time or money to do the lines.

Mac 55, I just checked and its only the line to the rear A/C. The shop said they have heard of blocking it but never done it. Do you know of someplace that might do that. They said the hose is $475 but on line they are about $100. Seems like a pretty steep mark-up. Thanks DrJ

I have gotten them at Napa recently and put them in a Suburban for a friend. They dont stock them but will order them in for you. I think we paid 40 or 50 bucks for the set, then just put the vacuum pump on a while and recharged. If the system is already empty you could install them yourself in a 1/2 hour or less then take it somewhere for recharging.

Just to put into perspective.

I can go to applebees and spend $9 on a quarter pound burger. I can go to the grocery store and buy 3 pounds of hamburger for the same price. If I go to a farmer I can probably get it for even less A repair shop is a "restaurant" not a "grocery store"! A parts store is a "grocery store" and not a "farmer"!

Not only that but there are more than likely installing a dealer or reputable supplier part that they now will fit. Many aftermarket, and especially A/C parts, can be a nightmare getting them to fit. At our shop we will only install O.E. evap cores on chrysler products. The after markets are just a bear to get to fit right!

And the customer pays sticker price but youse guys get it what, half price? I can see paying a markup if it is something the shop stocks but how much should I pay for a phone call to napa?

And paying 5 buck for a dollar bottle of beer with my dinner seems excessive too. At least Applebees cooks the burger and puts it on a nice plate with a tomato slice and some fries. They don't say it's 6 bucks for half a pound and 2 bucks for the bun and a dollar for the oil for the grill and 4 bucks for the cook's time and 1.50 for the garbage pickup service. smile

That's another thing that drives me nuts. People that bring there own hamburger to the restaurant! And then expect the restaurant to give them another burger for free when there hamburger turns out to be bad!

Or when people think they can make there own burgers out in the parking lot of the restaurant. Seriously! Do you bring your own grill to Burger king?

And run in and ask the chef several times on how to exactly cook the burger, then when the burger didnt taste just right, expect the chef to come out and show you how to cook it right grin

check with a dealer. if the leak is on the metal line they can sometimes repair the line without replacing it. i have sent a couple chevy's back to the dealer for this i think they were trailblazers or envoys though. can be cheaper this way.

I found a mechanic to replace the a/c lines that is charging me $350 for the hose. Thats his cost from the dealer. The other place- Think fast oil changes-was charging over $500 for the same part. I don't mind paying labor rates but the price mark up seemed a little to steep on the part. Thanks DrJ...
