lottery results are up

I got mine but it still makes no sense as I got two cause I applied for each season (gun and mz) and they are both good for "both" seasons so did I just take a chance away from another hunter by getting two even thougt I can only shoot one deer? The reason I ask is cause I got two, my brother got two and my dad got one for mz. So we technically got 5 permits for three hunters that can only shoot tree deer and we have two extra permits. Does that mean that those two permits could have been used by someone else and count towards the total given out?

I just does not make any sense to me why permits would be good for both seasons either.

Sorry for the rant I just think there is a issue.

I do believe you did take that opportunity away from someone else. No one forced you to apply for both. Sorry if this seems harsh, but it's your own fault.

Just a guess, but I'd bet the DNR made the permits valid for both seasons due to hunter's requests for the change. They are doing what we want. Sometime the social desires take precedent over good regulations; see buck lottery.

I am not disagreeing with you as I did buy both license but it just seems like since the permits are good for both seasons that you should not be able to be drawn twice. It just does not make sense to me. I will be very happy to take a doe but I feel that it is just a waste since I already got drawn for a permit to be able to get drawn again since one permit was good for both seasons. I know two guys that are buying gun license today since they found out there doe permit they got for MZ can be used for gun season.

It just seem weird to me.

TruthWalleyes,

If the first two area's are managed and you take two deer then your main tag is used is it not? I am not sure but that is what I am thinking. Maybe I am wrong I do not have a map infront of me.

Just checking and not trying to stir the pot!

One buck allowed in the state of MN.

My plan is to shoot one doe, one buck in zone 347/348 (TWO DEER TOTAL IN THE MANAGEMENT ZONE, NO MORE MANAGEMENT ZONE HUNTING) Then onto zone 295 which is lottery, where i will harvest a doe with the lottery doe tag. I may choose to shoot two does in 347/348 if i don't see a buck worth harvesting.

I could then go on to shoot two more does in a intensive harvest zone if i choose.

No Worries Froggy. I am one of those guys who will read the deer hunting regs front to back once, and sometimes twice each year to be sure i'm legal, and i can keep my friends/co-hunters legal as well. I enjoy it too much to lose it!

Edit:

After i typed that i realized i may need to read the regs again and focus on the lottery doe tags.

I know you can't tag your lottery doe with a bonus tag, and a buck will have to be tagged with your main tag, so what do you tag your lottery doe with? Does this mean i give up the right to shoot a buck if i harvest a doe in the lottery zone i applied for? If so, no biggie, i can let antlers walk, but that doesn't seem logical to me.

Yes, yes it does. At least for that season (archery, firearm, muzzy.) It is another way to a) limit the doe harvest in lottery areas and B) add funds to the DNR by getting us to buy more licenses.

Another way to state your scenario would be to say if you shoot a buck in a managed or intense area you give up your privilege of shooting a doe in a lottery area for that season.

But you can't tag a buck with a bonus tag in the management zone, and you can't tag the doe in lottery zone with a bonus tag either. So apparently its one or the other. Maybe i should change my plans to hunt the lottery zone on day 1 of firearm season, shoot a doe, then head to the management zones for another doe, and wait to harvest a potential buck during muzzleloading season in the management zone.

Gosh darn, this is getting confusing. I'll do some reading this weekend in the boat and see if i can clear it up. crazy

smirk Yep, you're getting it figured out. No bonus tags in lottery areas, no bucks on bonus tags....or only main tags in lottery areas, bucks can only be on main tags. (note: that is not saying that main tags can only be used for bucks. Well, unless you are hunting lottery and didn't draw a doe tag. And than with archery.... cry )

I just want to know if i can shoot a doe in a lottery zone, and a buck in a management zone during firearm season A. I have the doe tag for the lottery zone. Is that not feasible?

No.

Both of those would require the use of your 1 main tag.

Thanks for cleaning that up guys....just seems like the state should give you a tag for the doe permit in a lottery area instead of forcing you to choose between shooting that lottery doe or shooting a buck in any area of the state that is not lottery.

So then, I should be able to use my "Main Tag" on a Lottery Doe Firearm season and I should be able to use my "Main Tag" on a buck during Muzzleseason in any zone besides lottery...at least that is how i understand it....Or Screw it, 3 does it is, play it safe!

That is the way I understand it, too. I added the bold to your quote, but that doesn't seem to apply to you this year.

.....

If someone from the DNR is reading this and is interested in suggestions to make things simple here is my idea: Get rid of archery, firearm, and muzzy licenses, and just make it a deer license. Don't sell a 'main tag' with the license. Just sell tags separately. All tags would have the option for either/or, but we would still be responsible for only taking one buck per year. Make it so that archers have to apply for doe lotteries like everyone else.

Truth....where exactly do you hunt in 295?? My wife and I muzzleload that area. We are about 3 to 4 miles southwest of walnut grove. I have family in that area! Not sure on the deer situation down there this year but both my wife and I drew doe tags for muzzleloader! Cant wait as she has yet to get a deer!
