reel questions

JbuZZo

Question

like an [PoorWordUsage], I left some of my rods in the boat overnight...they were exposed to some moisture as well as I noticed that we were fishing a body of water that had a lot of green algae. Now, the drag on my Pflueger spinning reel and abu garcia ambassadeur baitcast slips...i was out last night and dunked both reels (in clean water) and have them drying...any ideas? I have reel grease and oil. Do I need to open them up and dry and grease them? Any advise would be helpful.

ok...so i opened up the reel and sure enough the drag disc's had moisture collected on them...no other signs of debris...however now when i reassembled the reel, it's super hard to reel (tension)...drag feels snug though...any ideas?

NOTE: This is for the abu garcia ambassador 6600

Even though this is after the fact!! blush Did you lay everything out in the order as you took them off? That way they went back on the right way. If so; Try backing off the tension knob, to see if that helps. Do you have the diagram for it? Always a good thing to have when taking reels apart.

I did do that...i'm not convienced though that I may have gotten one of those machined washers that are punched (indented) on the wrong way...Luckily the big box store i bought it from was willing to exchange it for the same thing...lesson i learned was to bring your rods in at the end of the day. smile

Did you leave them in the lake? Mine have gotten rained on many times, no problem.

A digital camera to take closeups every step can also be a big help when putting back together.

Google "Mike's reel repair schematics"

it should be the first hit, go there.

click on "Reel Schematics"

Either browse the lists or select the search function near the top at the right.
