Recommended Posts

The main purpose of this Contest is for the members to have some fun sharing their success and stories with a little friendly competition thrown in. Let's have some fun!

1. All birds submitted must have been harvested within the Rules and regulations of the state that they are hunted in.

2.Deadline for registration will be midnight(cdt) September 30th, 2011 in the sign up thread, members cannot harvest a bird before they are registered.

3. Submitting birds for scoring. There will be a submission form posted for use by the start of the Contest.

You will need to get a witness for the measurements of spur, beard and weight. Both you and the witness will need to sign the form verifying the measurement as being correct. All measurements will need to need in standard measurement,(Inches/pounds).

In addition to the submission form members will need to post three photos,(there will be a submission thread for this). If you need help posting pics let me know. One a close up of the spurs with a ruler/tape measure showing length,(you may need two pics if the spurs are different lengths). Also a second photo with a close up of the beard doing the same. The last picture should be of you,(the happy hunter with your face mask pull down) holding up your beautiful bird. We want to see the whole bird as well as what you look like. One of these photos should also have your 2011 filled turkey tag in it. If your state does not use a tag system then write the date the bird was taken on a piece of paper and include it in one of your photos.

When the Contest starts there will be also be a link to submit your filled out form. If you are not able to submit you bird online, send me an email and we'll make arrangements to have it mailed and posted.

4. Scoring of the bird will be based on the NWTF scoring system. Each member will be able to score multiple bird's as long as they are legally harvested.

The top scores will win the bragging rights. There will be separate divisions for Shotgun,Archery and the Golden Plump award for the biggest hen scored by weight.

There is no "settling" in the fall. You're right, ANY fall bird is a good bird, and that's a fine one you've got there. Congrats Walli!

jpettit, still waiting for those photos. If you need help, let me know...

Congrats, nice bird I screwed up twice this fall, so I got nobody to blame but me for the tag soup I'm eating.

Didn't see a bird with limited efforts on Saturday. Sunday evening about 4:30 I tried to cut off three toms I saw cross a field from the bow stand, but they didn't go quite where I thought & I never got closer than about 75 yards. Ran across a hen in the process that I would have gladly shot, but she was still at about 70 yards. Nailed a coon with a turkey load late, missed the second one on the run. Farmer will be happy to be down one corn thief.

Don Bo,

thaks for getting the pictures up!

I was hunting with my son Jake (14) in the goodhue area on some private land. same land as this spring which he got an 18 lb Jake. He told me since he already got 1 that he would "give" me the first shot.

it was about 8:00 am sat morning the 22nd. i was having my morning muffin & Jake spotted 2 birds about 40 yds away coming form woods to the field. he called & they came running, so needless to say i drop the muffin & try & get my gun swung around & out the small gun hole in the blind. of course we are sitting in the small blind not the large one, my son is looking at me like what the _---- are you doing as i trying to safely get the barrel out the opening & he's telling me which 1 to shoot. by now they are 5 ft away & end of story. the second 1 was a hen & he wanted to wait for a tom or jake or we would of been done.

needless to say we did notsee any until we were tearing down & they spotted us. i am told we are even now & every man for themselvesnext spring. it was more exciting watching him call them in then getting it. it was a great time, & would not of happened if not for the youth turkey hunt he was in.

now back to pheasants & ducks!

good luck everyone

Jon

cool story, jon. congrats again.

doubt if i officially register my bird. he scored a screaming 13 on the nwtf calculator (1" beard, .05 nub, 10 lbs).

thanks for the vote of confidence, sniper, grin but our gun season is over and i dont think i will be able to squeeze in much time for archery turkey hunts.

prime bowhunting is now with the rut heating up, two weekends of gun deer season coming up, the walleye action on the big river is starting to pick up and theres that annual p4 trip the middle of the month...

but if the river freezes early and i got my other tags filled, i might have to give the birds another go or two. wink
