Fall HSO Turkey Contest

Wundering if anybody would be interested in it like they are in the spring and if Borch would like to take it on again. I know i will participate if there is one. so lets here from those that would like to see it.

Guess Borch would have to chime in as to weather or not he's willing. Gonna be tougher with teams in the fall though because so many will get tags and have no real intention of seriously hunting them.

How about we just get a board going and the biggest fall bird gets all the bragging rights?

i would be in for a contest and agree it could just be done in a thread without being "officially organized."

in ill., we have a 9-day fall shotgun season, while the archery turkey season runs concurrent with the 3-month deer bow season.

not sure how seasons are set up in minn. and wis., but why not a shotgun contest and a separate archery division?

i also think since participation will be lower in the fall, how about an every man for himself format instead of trying to organize teams?

I think that's a fine idea Walli. Seperate divisions for archery and firearms. The hunter who takes the biggest bird in each catagory gets to thump his chest for the year.

Keep it simple. Seperate thread for each choice of weapon, simply add your bird as it's taken. No pre-season sign up, no limit on how many birds you can enter. (as long as all are legal)

Any bird's legal in the fall, but I suppose you mean legally taken & tagged.

Since any bird is legal what do think of weight only? Then at least a hen could possibly win it.

what!?!?!? lettin hens in a turkey contest would be like lettin does in big buck contests.

turkeys should be judged on their trophy characteristics - beards and spurs - not weight, just like bucks are judged by their headgear.

its highly doubtful a hen would have a chance of winning anyway based solely on weight.

so ... add a separate category for biggest hen.

That sounds good to me Don. I wont be fall hunting but they could just use the spring form. If need be I could score them with the nwtf system.

Yep I'm up for it, Borch is trolling for eyes and needs a break from the spring contest. You have your hands full with teaching the kids archery and everything else you do.

OK just a update, I will be putting together a fall contest in the next week it's going to be biggest tom separate gun and archery scored with the nwtf scoring system. Also biggest hen by weight separate gun and archery. Multiple birds may be submitted as long as their all legally harvested only the biggest bird will count for your score. We will use the same submission form as the spring. Winners get the bragging rights.
