For some reason it didn't seem like a Golden Shiner. There were small schools of them skittering around in the fast current in a big log jam on the MN. I catch lots of big shiners fishing for chubs, but these looked different.

The scales were hard and rough to the touch like a baby carp, but obviously wasn't.

Could have very well been a Golden though.

Not a Common, Golden, Striped, or Red Shiner. Almost 100% sure that is is a Spotfin Shiner. The picture posted lacks enough details to really be 100% sure. Lyons' online WI Fish ID Database is a really useful tool for IDing tough species, it is WI-centric but (for the most part) the species found in MN are all the same.
