2011 Deer Licenses, Regulations Available On-line Aug. 1

The 2011 deer hunting regulations and 2011 deer licenses will be available on-line today, August 1 (they're not yet up as of 7:00 AM ) on the Minnesota DNR HSOforum: http://news.dnr.state.mn.us/2011/07/29/deer-licenses-on-sale-aug-1-regulation-changes-announced/

Printed regulations will not be available until the middle of August.

I could'nt get to the larger map that shows the lottery areas, I see they are listed, just wondering if any of the boundaries have changed. My area 2 years ago was 168, last year it was 169 and I see 169 is lottery, wondering if it is the same area as last year.

The wording for "Managed Deer Areas", which includes me in 347, is a little confusing at first glance.

In Managed Deer Areas we can take one deer of either sex (assuming an adult buck meets the antler point requirements in Zone 3) without needing to apply for an antlerless permit. Then, apparently there may be additional antlerless permits available in Managed Deer Areas, if I am reading that right.

This is a new "hunters choice" category isn't it? I only remember intensive, managed, and lottery before. I like that additional category for recovering areas.

my area 178,went from managed to intensive this year.i am surprised because of all the snow we had last winter.

My area, 236, remains intensive.

Don't know what I would do without a bonus tag in my pocket.

It does seem that we generally got more liberal with our limits across the state. My main area is stll lotto, but number of permits went from 300 to 900. My secondary area was managed, now is intensive. My up north areas were lotto, are now hunter choice. And the back-up back-up areas went from lotto to managed, and managed to intensive.

Anybody's area become more restrictive? Besides loosing the early-antlerless season that is.

ASSUMING you are only hunting firearms season and only area 347; You can tag two deer, only one may be an APR buck. You will want to buy (over the counter, no lottery) one bonus tag and use that on your first antlerless deer. Your either/or can than be saved for your buck, or used on doe if you'd like.

Different advice if you are hunting multiple seasons or areas.

I misread the regs, 169 is one of the new hunters choice areas, can shoot 1 deer of either sex, basically the same as last year, I thought it might go to the lotto again.
