Freeze over dates?

Anyone have a good resource on some average freeze over dates for central MN? I see data for ice out dates in the spring but would like to know the earliest it freezes over typically.

I always figured the ice would be thick enough to ice fish by Dec 1 and driveable by Jan 1. Any thoghts?

I have never seen a online resource for this. Much easier to quantify and document when the ice leaves the lake than the forming process. Typically I just look back at the posts the previous year or two in late nov/early dec. to see when the diehards first go out on 3 inches. Would think an early year is Thanksgiving and on average your dates are about right, if not the first week of Dec. Have no problem being one of the first on the lake after ice out, usually let others pave the way for the ice formation wink

We have almost always been able to drive on MIlle Lacs by the New Years Eve weekend, most of the time they are on by the 2nd - 3rd week.

I have most of the time been able to walk out some where by the weekend after Thanksgiving here in southern Mn.

Sorry, I have never seen that information published anywhere. But if it helps, about 3 out of every 5 years I can walk out on a little lake near Hackensack on Thanksgiving weekend. Ice is usually someplace between 3" and 6" by then. But the nearby lakes (which are much larger and deeper) are usually still completely open when I'm ice fishing the little one....

this would be a small lake i have fished for years around 300 acres. boulder, fish, island are rarely frozen in that time period. rice would probably the first to freeze then boulder and fish and last but not least would be island. good luck.
