42 inch Tiger or Barred?

Recommended Posts

Caught her a couple weeks ago... I assumed this was a barred Muskie since she was a pretty hefty girl and not too many spots; my buddy thinks it's a Tiger. The tail is kind of pointed, yet kind of rounded at the same time... Maybe too many spots on the face to be a barred? What do you think?

Tiger. It may help you look at the lake you caught it in and find if there is a known mature tiger population. To me though, the combination of markings and lack of a distinct pointed (redish) tail make me lean heavily towards that fish being a Tiger musky. Nice fish congrats.

Very nice fish. If I were you, I might not want to share the lake either but Fever's right, you should check out the lake you're fishing on if you don't know because I think lakes tend to just have one strain stocked (not always, but mostly) so your lake could just have a tiger population.

Although if its not stocked with tigers and you got a natural one that makes it even better in my opinion.

Huge, healthy, beautiful, naturally occurring tiger.. jeebus! Huge congrats. That pic sure makes it look bigger than a 42er laugh

I can't get over just how fat and healthy it looks. Whatever lake you caught that out of probably has an outstanding ecology.

Ha, the fish looks bigger than a 42" because Dave's about 4'6".

Dave, I'm going to see your folks up at Crow this weekend. Danny'll be up there all week so he should have the fish figured out by the time I'm there. Shoot me an e-mail (tjconnoy AT hotmail.com) and let me know what you're up to, I have some pictures to send your way.
