Hook Help

I've been looking for something other than Trokar too, especially for flippin. I just ordered some Gambler KO's and will report back after the weekend. I also want to try the Gama Hvy Cover but can't find them w/out backorder.

Here are some of my notes...

- I am a firm believer in straight shank/snell knot

- Welded eye a must (Trokar isn't and I've had to retie a few times from line slipping thru)

- Trokar keeper is good

- Trokar's sharpness is great until you roll the point (which occurs the 1st time you touch a dock or log)I am hoping to find something a little more durable.

- Seems like every other package from Trokar has a rolled tip right out of the package which is the main reason I am not buying more from them.

Well, I guess I haven't had any problems with my trokars. Not even with the tip rolling over. I've been using #4's, #5's, Flipping Hooks with the plastic saver, and the Swimbait hooks with the screw in deal for plastic frogs like the rage frog. My only problem with the trokars is the fact that pike have been liking the platics that I've been putting on them too much. Losing a couple trokars expecially if I have a tungston bullet weight along with it is like losing a crankbait. A bit spendy. I really do like the tungsten and the trokar though. Never seen a hook so sharp. Just hurts a little losing them to pike.

The only problem iv had with them is the plastics not holding well. Iv never had one roll over or straighten out. There the only hooks iv used in the last year and half really like there drop-shot hook by far the best there is.

They are a strong hook. I had a gut hooked fish so I was going to cut the hook, but I couldn't cut it. I had both hands on the wire cutters trying to cut the hook. It wouldn't cut thru. Eventually I got the hook out and I kept the fish, luckily it was a smaller one.

As a follow up to my last post...

Gamma Hvy Cover - They do bend if enough pressure is applied. Plenty Sharp. Welded eye is sweet. Bait keeper is very nice - it will slip down after some use but snell knots help with that. wider gap than Trokar flippin hook.

Overall I like it better than Trokar and I think they've come out with a stiffer one but I haven't seen them.

I have some Gambler KO's that I will be trying soon.

No more Trokar flippin hooks for me.
