Fav new lure

Fever

Recommended Posts

I know alot of Bass guys and alot of them like to keep secrets and nearly all of them (myself included) are slightly to completely addicted to trying new things and buying the latest tackle. I personally haven't tried any "new" lures yet but I just recently orderd some of those "Warmouth soft plastics". They looked too good to not order. I figured with the primary forage around mn being young sunfish that type of flipping plastic should shine. I never have personally been a big spinnerbait fan but I have recently bought some heavy (1 3/8 oz and 1 oz strike king down deep spinnerbaits) with the intention of throwing these on the deep weed edge or around sunken humps to give the fish there a different look. Havent done it yet but my brother has and has experienced very positive results. I've also started personalizing my spinnerbaits by shortening the arm, replacing blades and skirts, and adding trailer hooks. Curious if anyone has any experiene with those warmouths yet? Or if anyone has any other new lures they'd like to chirp in about. I figured this site is a helpfull one and why not feed the addiction.

Has been the best new (well, new for me) combo this year. I've made a point of NOT fishing my usual spots too much this year, and not just using my ol' tried and true methods. I haven't put as many fish in the boat, but I've found some new ideas to work on!

I'm not KT (obviously) but I like the Pit Boss' action on the fall as well as hopping or even slowly swimming it. It's a great crayfish mimic, thus the color scheme I use (hat tip to Meat Run for suggesting the orange-and-brown color - you nailed it!).

And for whatever reason, bass will take it and hold onto it, giving a little extra time for a good hookset.

What kind of jig is that? I have been looking for something like that. I have picked up some of the KVD 1.5 lures and plan to put them to the test next week. I usually fish plastic, trying out the crankbaits now.

Fintech Title Shot Jig, awesome jigs for soft plastics!

Tonka,

Two main things i like about it. I'm a big fan of the original beaver style baits and it is in that category but has a different action than a sweet beaver which is one of my favorite baits. It is a nice change up to the sweet beaver. The second thing i like is it's durability, at least compared to the sweet beaver. I love the sweet beaver but it is not a very durable bait ( head tears after a couple fish, appendages are easily ripped off) I have yet to have an appendage ripped off the pit boss and the head seems more durable too, yet the bait is style pretty soft/pliable.

Here is the image of that Rojas Warmouth I started this thread with. I'm assuming not very many people have tried it. I'm thinking it may work well pitching into pockets with a pegged tungsten bullet sinker and a # 4 EWG worm hook.

I picked a few packages of these up at Gander a few weeks ago. Have had really good success skipping them under and around docks. Have only fished them on clear water lakes so far.

I love that jig, best tube jig I've ever used, will make a tube last forever and keeps the darting action.

They make a shorty (for shorter plastics), football, shakey and a skipping head too...

Thatoneguy, the picture that I posted was of a 3.5 inch flippin, pitchin, and skipping bait designed to be fished t-rigged with a bullet weight or weightless.

As far as swimbaits, thats a whole different deal but I may be able to help, yeah your right sometimes it can be tricky to rig them straight. If you've ever watched Infisherman with Dough Stange, he rigs his on the side, which in my experiance gives more room for error and gives fish from below a larger profile to see. I've also started using large saltwater longer shanked jig heads with many of mine. The hook is exposed and you can achieve greater depths. Just cant throw it through quite as thick of cover as you could if you used the normal Bass hook that gets threaded through the body and texaposed. You could lay the hook next to the body and see where it needs to run through prior to pushing it through body to help you get an accurate idea of where to start it. That helps me.

My swimbait question was totally separate, but I guess it didn't make sense that way where it was in the flow of the conversation blush

Thanks for the tips - I'll see if I can put em to use this weekend. Supposed to be 95 degrees on Sunday...I better go buy some sunscreen when I go restock my Havoc supply!

So, thus far Central bassman is the only guy that has fished those Warmouths. I was hoping for a few opinions. Mine should arive tomorrow via UPS. If they work I'll post. I do like the idea of basically "matching the hatch". Number one forage species thoughout the majority of Mn has got to be young sunfish/bluegill. Was thinking more people would cherp in order to help some of the newer fisherman out there. But, sometimes we like to keep our secrets.

Last night in our league, partner and I got 3rd out of 15. 9 lb 2oz, 3 bass. Winner had 3 bass, 9 lb 9oz, second had 3 bass, 9 lb 4oz. Fishing was good. Personally, I finally had a good night for size, partner and I had similar #'s of fish as well. Prob about upper teens to 20 or so total fish in 3 hours. Three biggest were 18.5, 17.5 and 17.25. Hit mossy mouse, spinnerbait, and rapala chigger pop in firetiger. Had most success on topwater (slow). Fished a small to medium sized lake north of Hutchinson Mn.

Fever, I eyed those up this year too and thought they looked good! Let us know how they work for ya, that was one thing I was hoping to do more of this year, pitching/flipping. But I really haven't. I have gained a ton of confidence and done well in my league cranking now which is fun. I really like the KVD 1.5's and the Red Eye Shad's this summer.

I’ve been trying the warmouth a bit on weedlines t-rigged. I keep finding myself going back to a beaver style bait though; just haven’t gathered the confidence in the warmouth yet to fish it consistently. It looks good at first glance, but I like the way the beaver falls compared to the warmouth. I’m sure it can and will produce, I just need to stick with it for an extended period of time.

I received my order from Tacklewearhouse yesterday. Timely once again. In total I ordered 5 hollow body frogs of various brands. Manns, Bronze eye, and Ish Monroe's new one with the keel shapped belly. Also something I forgot to mention earlier. Culprit makes a small 3.5 inch hollow body sunfish bait. The paint job needs a little bit of touch up as it is a bit generic but I like the concept of a fish shaped bait kickin around on the top as if it were a severly injured small sunny in its last throws. Havent tried them yet. Too hot... The Warmouths look real good too. Got 5 packs of 4 in three different colors. Thinking of dying tails a touch of blue and chartruse to futher complete the sunfish forage imatation.

Went and used my $75 gift card at Thorne Bros today. Found out the hard way that they switched locations. Very helpful staff and a nice selection of tackle there.

Here's what I got:

-Title Shot jigs (2 packs)

-Spro Bronzeye Frog

-3/32 oz mushroom jigheads

-Owner 6/0 hooks (for 10" worms)

-Rapala Skitter Pop (frog)

-Rapala DT6 (bluegill)

-Heddon Zara Spook

-weighted 4/0 hooks

-1/4 oz tungsten weights

-1/2 oz tungsten weights

-3 packs of senko like stick baits (various brands)

Can't believe how much those tungsten weights cost. May as well be fishing with gold!

I bought some of the warmouths and gave them a little bit of a workout tonight. Tried pitching them in the pads/slop. What kind of hooks are you guys using with these? I couldnt find a hook that would work well with these. I got bit on them a few times but didnt hook up as I think the hook just buried into the back of the bait. tried rigging it other ways but would just snag in the pads a bunch. Had to switch back to a beaver style bait so I could fish more effectively.
